Patrols hospital buildings and grounds to prevent fires, thefts, vandalism and illegal entries. Initiates proper actions, makes proper reports and safeguards patients, visitors, and hospital employees and their property. Operates hospital-owned vehicle(s) to provide parking lot and perimeter surveillance.
Upon special request and with proper authority, may leave the premises to make a pickup or delivery. When necessary may be assigned to the Information Desk in the main lobby either as relief or replacement for regularly assigned personnel.
Patrols hospital buildings and grounds as assigned by supervisor and conducts escorts of patients, visitors and hospital personnel to and from the parking lots as requested. Initiates proper action to enforce rules, procedures and protocols designed to protect the person and property of patients, visitors, and associates. Reports any unusual or suspicious activity to shift supervisor and any violation of hospital policy that is detrimental to the security or safety of the hospital.
Assumes care and control of found property and patient valuable lock-ups. Releases and documents said property to rightful owner by following appropriate procedures. Responds to all calls for assistance and all calls for emergency.
Assists in the control of disorderly persons in the Emergency Room, Nursing Units, Care Units and other areas in the hospital; calls for assistance as needed from other security officers or the Hobart Police. Enforces the hospital parking regulations and issues parking citations to those persons irregularly parked. Provides assistance to individuals with stalled/inoperable vehicles and calls for assistance as requested.
During the snow season, Security Officers initiate the notification to snow removal personnel. Attends annual in-service classes for the hospitals Fire, Disaster, Infection Control and Safety Programs, participates and attends other classes as required. Assists nurses in removal of deceased persons to the morgue and or funeral home.
Accepts assignments to the various shifts and when necessary may be assigned to irregular hours when it benefits the safety and security of the hospital. When assigned to the Emergency Room post, will performed the following task: Monitors surveillance cameras and reports unusual or suspicious activity to the Officer in charge, Security Supervisor, Security Manager. Monitors individuals leaving the Hospital with boxes, packages, etc. and documents all incidents.
Executes the Law Enforcement Policy when law enforcement officer(s) accompany a patient prisoner to the Hospital by: Issuing the law enforcement officer a copy of the Instruction Sheet for Law Enforcement Officers. Have the Officer sign the Acknowledgement Form indicating he/she received the Instruction Sheets. Complete the law enforcement investigating attachment.
Education/Experience A minimum of a High School diploma. Must have a valid Indiana Driver’s License Must have good communication skills and be able to read and write reports. Must be 21 years of age and be a citizen of the United States Must be knowledgeable and possess the necessary skills for the needs of patients in the category of newborn to adult and be courteous.
