JOB

The Visual Monitor Technician (VMT) provides continuous remote observation of multiple high-risk patients to promote patient safety and reduce the risk of falls, injury, or other unsafe behaviors. This position utilizes patient monitoring technology to identify potential safety concerns, verbally redirect patients when appropriate, and promptly communicate with nursing staff when intervention is needed. The VMT maintains accurate monitoring information and follows established departmental policies, procedures, and safety standards while supporting effective communication with the patient care team.

DUTIES: Provides continuous visual observation of assigned high-risk patients using the designated monitoring system while maintaining a distraction-free monitoring environment. Reviews and verifies fall-risk reports and ensures appropriate patients are accurately added to the monitoring system. Identifies unsafe or high-risk patient behaviors and provides appropriate verbal redirection to help prevent falls, injuries, or other safety events.

Promptly communicates with nursing and unit staff through established communication devices or alarms when a patient requires immediate assistance or intervention. Monitors behavioral health patients for changes or escalating behaviors and promptly reports concerns to appropriate clinical staff. Verifies established patient safety measures are in place, including bed alarms and other applicable fall-prevention interventions.

Monitors capacity and patient admissions to identify patients who may benefit from additional visual monitoring and communicates needs with appropriate staff. Operates the monitoring system appropriately, including managing privacy settings, virtual bed rails, patient refusals, and system issues, while completing required documentation and contacting technical support when necessary.
