M Duties & Responsibilities Purpose of Position : Under supervision, performs routine security inspections of buildings and grounds to prevent trespassing, property damage or loss. Performs related work as required. Examples of Typical Tasks : 1.
Conducts periodic tours of buildings and grounds to inspect doors, windows, gates, locks and equipment. 2. Monitors for unauthorized entry, fire hazards, leaks from water or steam lines, and other conditions which might result in property damage or loss. 3. Maintains order by preventing trespassing and discouraging loitering. 4.
Responds to incoming telephone calls and doorbells. 5. Operates elevators during emergency situations. 6. May operate heating equipment as required.
- 1. Valid New York State Security Guard registration card issued by the Department of State; and 2. Satisfactory completion of a 16-hour On-the-Job Training (OJT) course within ninety (90) days of employment. Special Note: Employees in this title are required to complete an 8-hour in-service training course within one (1) calendar year of completion of the 16-hour OJT course, and annually thereafter. Department Preferences
- High School Diploma or Educational Equivalent is required.
- On-going mandated training in institution/department.
- Driver’s license optional; Except for newly hired employees - required from February 2007.
- Loss Prevention (prevention of unauthorized removal of HHC property, as well as patients, staff, visitors.)
- Incident Command System (when/what mode to be taken during an internal/external disaster)
- Penal Law (as it pertains to Peace Officers; minimal knowledge of NYCPD Administrative codes, Patrol Guides, Generation & Traffic Regulations)
- Fire and Safety (Access control, assist in removal of personnel, containing area)
- Interpersonal Communication (Conflict management resolution), demonstrates knowledge in handling and diffusing hostile and emotional confrontations.
- Customer Relations, Cultural Sensitivity, dealing with patients and staff.
- Hospital Police Reporting process, HHC 587, memo book, Log Book. Provides supporting documents, i.e. witness statements, Customer Relations, Cultural Sensitivity, dealing with patients and staff.
- Physical Restraints and Seclusion of Patients, Crises Prevention and Intervention.
- Weapons of Mass Destruction, First Responders awareness during a WMD incident.
- Hospital Police Reporting process, HHC 587, memo book, Log Book.
