**ROTATING SHIFT**Work Hours: 3-12hr shifts Full Time PositionWound Care TechnicianPrimary PurposeProvides wound care to patients to reduce complications, shorten healing time, and support maximum recovery. Minimum SpecificationsEducationMust have completed or hold one of the followingTwo (2) years of experience in a Med/Surg environmentA formal nurse aide courseA current certified nurse aide registryA medical assistant courseA current medical assistant certificateA patient care technician courseA current patient care technician certificateMust be currently enrolled in an accredited school of professional nursing and must have documentation of the basic fundamentals of nursing from the schoolMust be a graduate from an accredited school of nursingParkland’s job-specific training programExperiencePrevious experience as a wound care technician preferred.

Certification/Registration/LicensureBasic Life Support (BLS) OR Heart Saver (First Aid/CPR/AED) required from one of the followingAmerican Heart AssociationAmerican Red Cross RescuerMilitary Training NetworkAmerican Heart AssociationCurrent employees have a grace period until July 21st, 2023, to obtain their BLS Certification OR Heart Saver (First Aid/CPR/AED). Skills or Special AbilitiesMust be able to successfully complete all department-assigned competencies.

Must be able to read, write, and communicate effectively with patients, families, medical staff, and hospital personnel. Must be able to document care given in the medical record. Must be able to demonstrate patient-centered/patient-valued behaviors.

ResponsibilitiesAssist with wound care. Performs specified patient care activities under the direction of a licensed medical provider, including providing basic hygiene care, unsterile treatments, taking vital signs, and range of motion exercises. Lifts, ambulates, and feeds patients in accordance with patient-centered care, providing optimal care services to patients and their families.

Serves as a patient advocate by responding to a patient’s needs and special requests. Maintains open communication and honors patients’ rights and confidentiality while providing optimal service to patients and their families. Demonstrates wound care to patients and family members in collaboration with the licensed medical provider.

Maintains, updates, and utilizes knowledge of sanitation, infection control, safety, supplies and equipment usage to optimize customer care and services. Monitors conditions of patient environment and equipment, i.e. wheelchairs, bed rails, scales, floor conditions, and corrects the condition and/or reports the deficiencies or defects for immediate correction as appropriate. Monitors ongoing patient status, including wounds, and responds to a patient’s change in condition by notifying and assisting nurses and other health team members in handling patient care needs.

Escorts patients to other areas, cleans designated or special areas, provides or requests translation services when applicable, performs quality control checks, and delivers patient specimens when applicable in order to provide optimal patient care. Stocks and distributes supplies, transports linens, and completes charge vouchers. Takes responsibility for own professional growth and development by attending in-services and reading internal publications and integrates this knowledge as appropriate to the job.

Maintains a positive working relationship with staff, patients, family members, and physicians to ensure the patient receives the best possible care. Maintains knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws, and guidelines that impact the Wound Care area. Develops effective internal controls that promote adherence to applicable state/federal laws, and the program requirements of accreditation agencies and federal, state, and private health plans.

Seeks advice and guidance as necessary to ensure proper understanding. Job AccountabilitiesIdentifies ways to improve work processes and improve customer satisfaction. Makes recommendations to supervisor, implements, and monitors results as appropriate in support of the overall goals of the department and Parkland.

Stays abreast of the latest developments, advancements, and trends in the field by attending seminars/workshops, reading professional journals, actively participating in professional organizations, and/or maintaining certification or licensure. Integrates knowledge gained into current work practices. Maintains knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws, and guidelines that impact the area.

Develops effective internal controls designed to promote adherence with applicable laws, accreditation agency requirements, and federal, state, and private health plans. Seeks advice and guidance as needed to ensure proper understanding.
