Travel Registered Nurse (RN) – Medical-Surgical (MedSurg) Facility: Aspirus Medford Hospital Location: Medford, Wisconsin Contract Length: 13 Weeks Start Date: ASAP Guaranteed Hours: 36 Hours per Week
12-Hour Variable Shifts, Primarily PM/Nights Scrub Color: Any clean, professional, work-appropriate scrubs Position Overview Aspirus Medford Hospital is seeking an experienced Travel Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse (RN) for a 13-week contract. The ideal candidate will have at least two years of nursing experience, strong clinical assessment skills, and the ability to care for a diverse patient population in a critical access hospital setting.
Emergency Department (ED) or Intensive Care Unit (ICU) experience is highly beneficial. Candidates must be comfortable interpreting telemetry strips and adapting to a shared Medical-Surgical and ICU environment. Key Responsibilities Provide safe, high-quality nursing care to medical-surgical patients.
Assess patient conditions, monitor vital signs, and identify changes requiring intervention. Interpret telemetry strips and monitor patients with cardiac conditions. Administer medications and treatments in accordance with established protocols.
Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary healthcare teams to develop and implement patient care plans. Document patient assessments, interventions, and outcomes accurately. Support ICU and Medical-Surgical unit operations as needed.
Assist other departments with tasks such as vital-sign checks when requested. Adapt to changing patient acuity, staffing needs, and clinical priorities. Maintain patient safety and follow hospital policies and nursing standards.
Required Qualifications Current Wisconsin RN license or compact multistate RN license required. Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience required. Current BLS certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) required.
Current ACLS certification required. Current PALS certification required. Ability to read and interpret telemetry strips required.
ED or ICU experience strongly preferred. Epic charting experience preferred. Willingness to float to other departments and designated Aspirus facilities as needed.
Schedule and Weekend Requirements 36 guaranteed hours per week. 12-hour variable shifts, primarily afternoons and nights. Every other weekend required. Every other holiday required.
Travelers may be placed on call during low-census periods and will receive on-call pay according to facility policy. Unit Information 20-bed combined Medical-Surgical and ICU unit. Typical patient census: 8–10 patients.
ICU capacity: 3 beds. Located within a 25-bed critical access hospital. Typical nurse-to-patient ratios: Days/Evenings: 1:4–5.
Evenings/Nights: 1:6–7. Floating Requirements Occasional assistance in other departments may be required. These assignments are generally supportive tasks, such as checking vital signs, rather than assuming a separate patient assignment.
Potential floating locations include Aspirus facilities in Merrill, Wausau, Stanley, and Langlade.
