Flexible 8-, 10-, and 12-hour shifts Shift Options: Days, PMs, and Nights Scrub Color: Any Color Position Overview Aspirus Rhinelander Hospital is seeking an experienced Travel Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT), Medical Technologist (MT), or Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) for a 13-week assignment. This position will primarily support laboratory assistant duties and phlebotomy, with additional responsibilities in core laboratory testing as needed.
The ideal candidate will have a strong blood bank background, excellent phlebotomy skills, and at least three years of core laboratory experience. Arterial blood gas (ABG) experience is a plus. Candidates must be flexible, adaptable, and comfortable transitioning between phlebotomy, specimen processing, and medical laboratory responsibilities in a busy hospital environment.
Key Responsibilities Perform phlebotomy and collect blood specimens accurately and efficiently. Support blood bank operations and related laboratory processes. Process specimens for urinalysis, chemistry, and kit-based testing.
Assist with specimen preparation, handling, labeling, and processing. Perform medical laboratory testing within the scope of qualifications and assigned responsibilities. Maintain specimen integrity and follow laboratory quality-control and safety procedures.
Use Epic for documentation and laboratory-related workflows. Transition between laboratory assistant and MLT responsibilities based on departmental needs. Collaborate with laboratory staff and healthcare professionals to support timely and accurate test results.
Float to designated Aspirus facilities when scheduled. Required Qualifications Current qualification as an MLT, MT, or CLS. Associate or bachelor's degree required.
Minimum of 3 years of core laboratory experience required . At least 1 previous travel assignment required . Strong phlebotomy skills required.
Strong blood bank background required. Epic experience required. ASCP certification preferred but not required.
ABG experience preferred. Ability to work independently, manage multiple responsibilities, and adapt to changing laboratory needs. Schedule and Weekend Requirements 80 hours biweekly.
Flexible scheduling with 8-, 10-, and 12-hour shifts. Day, evening, and night shifts may be assigned. Every other weekend required.
Holiday rotation required. Flexible availability is essential to meet departmental staffing needs. On-Call and Low-Census Requirements Travelers may be placed on call during low-census periods.
Call-back pay is available when called back to the facility. Minimum call-back pay is 2 hours. Additional scheduling flexibility may be required depending on laboratory volume and staffing needs.
Floating Requirements Travelers may be required to float to the following Aspirus facilities: Aspirus Tomahawk Aspirus Eagle River Aspirus Howard Young Floating assignments may be scheduled in advance. Position-Specific Details This position will primarily focus on laboratory assistant duties and phlebotomy, with additional MLT responsibilities as needed. Key areas of focus include: Phlebotomy and blood specimen collection.
Blood bank experience. Specimen processing. Urinalysis and chemistry processing.
Kit test processing. ABG experience, if available. Flexibility to support both laboratory assistant and MLT functions.
