  • Acute Care Unit (Medically stable patients)
  • 40 Beds
  • 2 Nurses Stations
  • 20 beds on each side
  • Other notes:
  • Scrubs must be clean, no specific color
  • No hair color, tattoo, or piercing restrictions
  • Free Parking: Free Parking with shuttle in winter months
  • Bedside Shift Report is a requirement, White boards in all rooms, rounding
  • There is potential for extending. Potential full-time conversion option.

  • Scheduling:
  • Day: 0700-1930; Night: 1930-0700
  • 6 week rotational scheduling, RTO preapproved before hire
  • 6 Weekend Shifts in 6 weeks
  • Weekends for day shift are Sat/Sun. Weekends for night shift are Fri/Sat.
  • Attempt to put travelers on pattern schedule but this may vary at times
  • Able to look for unit assignments in the scheduling system (API), or check with staffing office.
  • Shift huddle on each unit before every shift 0700/1900 in Huddle Room
  • Holidays: 1-2 Holidays over the winter
  • Eve is a holiday for the night shift
  • Day shift is the day of the holiday
  • Overtime: Staffing or Manager will reach out same day for needs of the unit
  • Time-Off: RTO approved prior to start date, must still commit to 3x12s per week
  • Floating:
  • Med/Surg Combo - Surgical and Oncology Patients (2nd Surgical)
  • ED Boarders - main floor, for Medical Overflow 1:5 ratio
  • Progressive Care Unit on 2nd Floor, below Acute Care Unit - for Medical Overflow, 1:5 ratio
  • Orientation:
  • 1 Day of General Orientation (includes Meditech training)
  • 12-hour shift to orienting to Acute Care Unit, cross-training to sister-unit 2nd Surgical during onboarding week
  • Charting System/Equipment:
  • EMR: Meditech
  • IV Pump: Baxter
  • Medication Dispensing: Pyxis
  • Communication device: Voalte
  • Support on the Unit:
  • 3-4 RNs on each side - 6-8 RNs per shift
  • 2-3 CNAs per side (Ratio: 1:6-8), 4-6 CNAs per shift
  • May have primary patient care for 1-2 patients in your ratio
  • 1-2 Shift Unit Supervisors per shift - sometimes will have a team of patients
  • Health Unit Clerk: Day shift- 07:00-1930
  • Centralized Camera Monitoring Tech for Care View Video Monitoring
  • Hospitalist, RT 24/7
  • Mandatory

• Epidural/PCA/Medication management, Drain/Ostomies management, chest tubes, wound care, general post-surgical recovery, post-op ortho• Required

  • 1:5-6
  • Patient Types:
  • Medical - COPD, CHF, emphysema, CAD, DM, ETOH W/D, dementia, failure to thrive, falls with or without injury, kidney failure and patients on dialysis, sepsis, UTIs, GI bleeds and all sorts of different wounds
  • May see a few surgical patients, but majority of them go to the 2nd Surgical Unit
  • Stroke Certified Unit - must be comfortable with stroke patients and neuro assessments
