Both the Intermediate Medical Care Unit (IMCU) and Critical Care Unit (CCU) function as step-down/progressive care units, with most patients receiving telemetry monitoring. Common IV drips managed on these units include Heparin, Nitroglycerin, Cardizem, and Amiodarone. Staff may manage these medications within established parameters; however, drips are not titrated upward without a provider order.
If a patient's condition requires a higher level of titration or monitoring than the unit can provide, the patient may need to be transferred to the ICU. A specific Heparin protocol is in place to guide Heparin titration.
