Description

Status: Non-ExemptA Brief OverviewThe staff nurse is a professional who utilizes excellent communication and customer relations skills in assessing, counseling and educating patients on lifestyle modifications as it relates to cardiovascular risk factor reduction and improved quality of life. The nurse is responsible for assessing the patient's physical response to exercise and psychological response to the illness.

The nurse formulates a plan of care that will enhance the patient's recovery from a cardiovascular incident or use supervised exercise training for peripheral artery disease. Identifies patient's learning needs and implements appropriate measures to meet these needs by providing coaching directed toward behavioral change. Has a strong upstanding of billing and reimbursement issues related to the management of patients in Phase 2 rehabilitation, Phase 3 rehabilitation, and SET for PAD.

The delivery of professional nursing care at Stormont Vail Health is guided by Jean Watson's Theory of Human Caring and the theory of Shared governance, both of which are congruent with the mission, vision, and values of the organization. Education QualificationsBachelor's Degree Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) PreferredExperience Qualifications6 months Prior work experience in Cardiology RequiredSkills and AbilitiesDemonstrates awareness and application of safety issues as identified within the institution.

Strives to manage situations in a manner, which minimizes risk to the patient and the institution. Required (Required proficiency)Ability to communicate effectively using verbal, non-verbal and written methods.

Required (Required proficiency)Understands the pathophysiology, the treatment and the recovery process for the outpatient, recovering from coronary artery events (i.e. CABG, PTCA, MI, Valve Repair, stable angina, heart failure and intermittent claudication.) Required (Required proficiency)Identifies patient/so learning needs and implements appropriate measures to meet these needs by providing coaching directed toward behavioral change.

This is accomplished through goal setting, verbal instruction (1:1 and group), written educational material and continual feedback. Required (Required proficiency)Licenses and CertificationsRegistered Nurse - KSBN A multistate license with the ability to practice within the State of Kansas is also accepted. RequiredBasic Life Support - BLS RQI, CPR or ACLS certifications may be required in lieu of or in addition to BLS depending on department.

Must have within 90 days of hire.
