Certifications
✓In OASAS-certified treatment programs, may only assist in counseling patients with a valid CASAC-Trainee certification and under supervision.
✓Any individual working in an OASAS-Certified Treatment Program or newly-hired into the title of Assistant Addiction Counselor in a NYC Health + Hospitals health care setting must have proof of completion of OASAS “Supporting Recovery with Medications for Addiction Treatment (MAT)” training
✓Valid Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC) – Trainee Certification issued by the NYS Office of Addiction Services and Supports (OASAS)
Education
✓Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university including or supplemented by twenty-four credits in Psychology, Sociology, Social Work or a related field
✓High School diploma or its educational equivalent and two (2) years of full-time paid satisfactory experience performing case management, care coordination, and related supportive functions in a substance use disorder treatment program
✓However, all must have at least a High School diploma or its educational equivalent.
