JOB SUMMARY Working under the supervision of the Director of International Affairs (OIA), the Assistant Director coordinates the daily office operations, ensures compliance with regulations, manages staffing, prepares, and manages budget, and provides comprehensive reports.
Supervises daily operations of managers, immigration advisors and staff, and oversees office workflows and timelines set by the director. Oversees the development and implementation of policies and procedures related to immigration and the development and oversight of office technology, data, systems, and practices to ensure compliance with federal regulations and reporting requirements. S. citizen or permanent resident in order to meet federal requirements for PDSO and RO. Preferred Education Master's Degree in a related field. Experience Experience working in an academic medical center.
JOB DUTIES Serves as a Designated School Official (DSO) for the F-1 visa student program and Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) for J-1 visa students to manage SEVIS records, process I-20/DS-2019 forms, and ensure adherence to U. S. Department of Homeland Security regulations.
Provides guidance on federal immigration regulations and assistance in resolving complex problems concerning immigration status and compliance. Ensures proper issuance of non-immigrant documents for faculty, postdoctoral fellows, clinical trainees, staff and students to participate in employment or other activities at the institution. Must be knowledgeable about various immigrant and non-immigrant visa types with specific expertise in F, J, H, O and TN statuses.
Directs all non-immigrant regulatory advising to assist both the institution and the visiting foreign national to achieve their goals for the visitor‿s time at UT Southwestern. Researches, recommends, and implements appropriate policies and procedures, which support international students in maintaining their immigration and academic status. Coordinates with DHS/USCIS, Department of State, Department of Labor and other state and federal agencies to accomplish institutional goals related to immigrant and non-immigrant visitors.
Assists with development of professional written materials and website content designed to inform international students. Prepares statistical data and information on international students for multiple uses throughout the institution and externally, including analysis and research. Tracks immigration policy and regulatory changes and updates and maintains expertise in legislation and regulatory practices related to immigration.
Oversees recruitment, hiring and performance evaluation of OIA staff. Supervises and develops a staff of managers, professional advisors and administrative staff and conveys information between the Director, managers and other employees. Ensures compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.
In the absence of the Director, serves as acting Director of International Affairs. Maintains confidentiality as appropriate. Performs other duties as assigned.
Salary Information Salary is commensurate with education, skills, and relevant experience.
