JOB SUMMARY The Assistant Vice President and Associate Chief Nursing Officer (AVP/ACNO) for Ambulatory Services serves as a senior nursing executive responsible for advancing professional nursing practice, clinical quality, patient safety, workforce excellence, and operational performance across assigned ambulatory service lines and clinical programs.

Reporting directly to the Chief Nursing Officer for Ambulatory Services, the AVP/ACNO partners with physician, operational, and executive leaders to establish strategic direction, drive organizational priorities, and ensure delivery of patient-centered, evidence-based care. EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION Required Education Master's Degree in Business Administration, Health Care Administration, Public Health, Nursing, or a related discipline. If Master's degree is not in Nursing, a Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) is required. Experience At least 10 years of progressive leadership experience in a large, complex health care system.

Preferred Experience Experience in an academic medical center. Experience leading multisite ambulatory care networks. Magnet experience Licenses and Certifications ANCC Board Certification (NEA-BC, RN-BC, or specialty certification), FACHE, or other nationally recognized healthcare leadership certification.

JOB DUTIES In collaboration with the CNO for Ambulatory Services, the Assistant Vice President, ACNO of Ambulatory is responsible for identifying and articulating the strategic nursing direction for the discipline of Nursing in the Ambulatory setting, and collaborates on the implementation of strategies to achieve them within the assigned clinical portfolio of ambulatory clinics and programs. The ACNO works collaboratively with the Medical Directors, Operations Directors, Clinic Managers, and Nurse Managers to develop, implement, and manage patient care delivery processes in the outpatient setting that provide high-quality clinical care and service in a safe, efficient, and cost-effective manner.

Works closely with executive leadership to ensure nursing and clinical operations are aligned with the mission, vision, and values of UTSW ambulatory operations, as well as with the organizational strategic plan. Provides guidance for the development of strategies to promote workforce planning, succession planning, recruitment, retention, recognition, leadership development, and recognition of excellence in Nursing, including the promotion of Magnet principles in the ambulatory setting, recommendations regarding compensation for ambulatory nursing staff, and optimization of ambulatory staffing models.

Translates nursing strategic vision for prioritizing, organizing, and optimizing care team job roles and work distribution to align with leading practice trends. Participates in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of clinical programs and services, ensuring appropriate resources for the delivery of care. Assures that the patient care delivery models are consistent with current research and professional standards and with the mission, vision, and values of the organization.

Promotes a multidisciplinary approach to patient care and coordination among disciplines. Actively participates in various health system steering committees to effect and implement change. Leads UTSW initiatives as requested.

Stays abreast of and communicates shifts in healthcare trends, develops strategic mitigation plans, and coordinates with internal and external stakeholders. Fosters a patient-care culture that emphasizes patient safety and excellence in all aspects of care, working collaboratively with the medical staff and medical staff leadership to ensure the highest quality patient care. Accountable for financial stewardship and nursing resource utilization within assigned clinics and programs while supporting a care model that is efficient and leads to high-quality patient outcomes.

Creates expense budget for assigned clinics and programs and presents budget recommendations to the CNO of Ambulatory Services for approval. Accountable for performance management and results of the assigned area. Ensures staff is adequately trained in evidence-based standards in patient care.

Ensures staff comply with established policies, processes, and quality assurance programs. Promotes evidence-based practice, clinical innovation, nursing research, and dissemination of best practices across the ambulatory enterprise. Assures continuity and consistency of nursing care across assigned clinics and programs in the ambulatory setting by assuring that nursing services are provided in compliance with all applicable standards and requirements of the Joint Commission, the State Board of Nursing, and other applicable regulatory bodies; promotes and actively seeks recognition beyond the regulatory requirements for patient care services and for nursing.

Demonstrates leadership and commitment to staff and colleagues by accepting accountability for outcomes, sharing timely information, building effective relationships, and communicating clearly and directly Leads strategically through developing and mentoring direct reports, and empowering staff to meet goals, budget, and performance metrics, including patient access, nurse-sensitive outcomes, patient satisfaction, and safety performance metrics.

Develops employee engagement strategies to promote employee satisfaction, retention, and talent acquisition. Promotes a culture of customer service aimed at creating an optimal patient experience and a collaborative work environment. Implements process improvement opportunities to realize efficiencies and consistently evaluate outcomes for alignment across the clinical enterprise with the strategic vision set forth by Health System and Ambulatory Services leadership.

Manages space utilization needs in collaboration with ambulatory executive leadership. Provides consultative service on behalf of nursing for clinic facilities and construction projects. Promotes and supports shared governance structures, professional practice councils, and ambulatory nursing engagement initiatives that advance nursing excellence and professional accountability.
