✓Requirements
Certifications
✓Grandfathered technicians (no certification): Must complete 10 hours of continuing education annually to remain qualified.
✓Certified staff : Must complete 10–12 hours of continuing education annually, as required by the certifying body.
✓Staff pending certification (within 18 months of hire): Continuing education not required until certification is obtained.
✓Employees in a Central Sterile position on or before 12/27/2020 are grandfathered and do not need certification unless moving to a position that requires it.
✓Certification required for employees in PA and NY facilities (MD facilities are excluded).
✓New hires in PA and NY have 18 months from hire to obtain certification.
✓Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD)
✓Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) with Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA)
Education
✓High school diploma/GED or equivalent with no experience
Currently enrolled in an accredited Surgical Technician or Sterile Processing program (preferred)
Qualifications
✓10–12 weeks on day shift to build confidence and readiness
