The Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) serves as the senior nursing executive for the assigned hospital and provides strategic, clinical, and operational leadership for nursing and patient care services. The CNO is accountable for advancing a culture of nursing excellence, quality, patient safety, clinical outcomes, and exceptional patient experience while ensuring alignment with Orlando Health's mission, values, and strategic priorities.
In partnership with hospital and system leadership, physicians, and quality leaders, the CNO establishes the vision and strategic direction for nursing practice and leads initiatives that improve clinical and organizational performance. The CNO champions Magnet principles and recognition, Leapfrog performance, high reliability, evidence-based practice, and continuous improvement, while creating an environment that attracts, develops, engages, and retains an exceptional nursing workforce.
Qualifications Provides strategic and operational leadership for nursing and patient care services, ensuring the delivery of safe, high-quality, evidence-based, patient-centered care. Establishes and advances the vision for nursing practice, professional development, shared governance, clinical excellence, and the patient care delivery model. Partners with physician, quality, and executive leaders to improve clinical quality, patient safety, patient experience, regulatory performance, and nursing-sensitive outcomes.
Leads efforts to achieve and/or sustain Magnet recognition or Magnet-level nursing excellence, including professional nursing practice, engagement, leadership development, and evidence-based practice. Drives improvement in Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade performance and other nationally recognized quality and patient safety measures. Promotes a culture of high reliability, accountability, transparency, safety, and continuous improvement, empowering team members to identify risks and opportunities for improvement.
Uses clinical, workforce, operational, and financial data to establish priorities, measure performance, and drive sustainable improvements in patient and organizational outcomes. Develops strategies to recruit, retain, engage, recognize, and develop a high-performing nursing workforce and ensures effective leadership succession planning. Ensures appropriate nursing staffing, skill mix, resource allocation, and workforce planning to support patient safety, quality, operational effectiveness, and organizational growth.
Builds collaborative relationships with physicians, nursing leaders, interdisciplinary teams, and other key stakeholders to advance clinical and organizational priorities. Oversees nursing budgets, staffing plans, organizational structure, technology, and resources while maintaining appropriate financial and operational stewardship. Ensures nursing practices, policies, programs, and services comply with professional, accreditation, legal, and regulatory standards.
Represents nursing on hospital and system leadership councils and serves as an advocate for nursing within the organization and community. achelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) required; Master's degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or related field required. Current Registered Nurse (RN) license or eligibility for licensure in the applicable state. Progressive nursing leadership experience in an acute care hospital or complex healthcare system, including significant experience at the senior or executive leadership level.
Demonstrated success leading improvements in quality, patient safety, clinical outcomes, nursing excellence, workforce engagement, and patient experience. Experience working in a Magnet-designated organization and/or leading an organization toward Magnet designation or redesignation strongly preferred. Experience with Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade performance, high-reliability practices, nursing-sensitive indicators, and other nationally recognized quality and safety measures preferred.

Strong financial, operational, strategic planning, and workforce management capabilities. Demonstrated ability to lead organizational change and develop high-performing teams in a complex healthcare environment.
