Position Summary The Director, Enterprise Architecture (EA), is a senior technology leader who leads BJC's enterprise architecture function and serves as a trusted technical thought partner to the Senior Leadership Team. The role is accountable for enterprise-wide architectural direction, including principles, governance, strategy, reference architectures, lifecycle management, and cross-domain coherence. The successful candidate will bring broad technology leadership beyond the traditional boundaries of enterprise architecture and engage in significant forward-looking technology discussions to understand the issue, challenge assumptions, develop a credible point of view, and influence direction.

This leader combines breadth across applications, integration, data, cybersecurity, infrastructure, cloud, platforms, and engineering with the ability to go deep when the situation requires. The Director leads the Core EA team in a federated operating model and ensures architecture accelerates execution rather than becoming a centralized bottleneck. EA is what this person leads, not the boundary of what this person is capable of doing.

LeCore Accountabilities Lead Enterprise Architecture: Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing Core EA team. Establish clear accountabilities, decision rights, operating rhythms, and role clarity across Enterprise, Domain, Solution, Platform, Data, Security, and Infrastructure Architecture. Serve as a Senior Technical Thought Partner: Engage across major technology decisions, rapidly frame unfamiliar or complex issues, test assumptions, surface choices and tradeoffs, and help shape an enterprise point of view.

Shape Enterprise Technology Strategy: Assess where technology is going, determine what matters to BJC and what does not, recommend where BJC should invest, and define how the technology landscape should evolve. Translate that strategy into target states, roadmaps, standards, and investment priorities. Bring Broad and Deep Technical Leadership: Provide credible leadership across applications, integration, data, AI, cybersecurity, infrastructure, cloud, platforms, resilience, observability, and modern engineering practices.

Go sufficiently deep to evaluate architecture, operational implications, dependencies, controls, and tradeoffs. Own EA Governance and Decision Rights: Define and operate pragmatic governance that promotes speed, coherence, reuse, and value. Ensure decisions are made by the right roles at the right time, with clear escalation and exception paths.

Define Principles, Standards, and Reference Architectures: Establish and maintain actionable enterprise principles, standards, patterns, and reference architectures that reduce fragmentation and guide consistent solution design. Drive Cross-Domain Alignment: Facilitate decisions and arbitrate tradeoffs across applications, integration, data, cybersecurity, infrastructure, cloud, and platforms. Create coherence without undermining domain accountability or delivery speed.

Lead Modernization and Lifecycle Strategy: Develop enterprise modernization and lifecycle roadmaps aligned to business capabilities, risk, resilience, financial stewardship, and operational supportability. Enable Delivery: Equip domain, solution, and platform teams with reusable guardrails, patterns, reference designs, and decision support so teams can move quickly while remaining enterprise-aligned. Communicate with Executives and the Board: Translate complicated technical issues for CEO, CFO, clinical executive, and Board-level audiences in terms of business implications, choices, risks, opportunities, investment requirements, and recommended action. adership mandate: Hire a great technology leader who can lead architecture, not only a great architect who can lead architecture.

Balances strategic perspective with current technical depth and can distinguish meaningful technology shifts from hype.

Required Qualifications 10+ years of progressively responsible technology experience spanning one or more areas such as enterprise or solution architecture, software engineering, infrastructure, cloud, platforms, cybersecurity, data, integration, or technology strategy. Demonstrated senior leadership of complex, enterprise-scale technology work, including setting direction, making cross-domain decisions, and influencing executives and delivery teams.

Experience establishing or significantly advancing architecture capabilities, governance, standards, roadmaps, or federated ways of working. Prior formal leadership of an EA function is valuable but is not required if equivalent enterprise technology leadership is demonstrated. Strong breadth across applications, integration, data, cybersecurity, infrastructure, cloud, and platforms, with evidence of the ability to go deep in complex technical discussions.
