Powers Health is seeking an experienced, collaborative, and results-driven Director of Nursing to join our Nursing Leadership team. Reporting to the Vice President of Nursing/Chief Nursing Officer, this leader will be responsible for the overall leadership, operations, quality, and performance of assigned patient care departments. This is an opportunity for a nursing leader who enjoys being visible, engaged, and connected to both staff and patients.
The Director will work closely with nursing leaders, physicians, and interdisciplinary partners to strengthen clinical outcomes, develop future leaders, improve the patient experience, and ensure the delivery of safe, high-quality care. As a member of Nursing Leadership, the Director will also contribute to hospital, regional, and system-wide goals, strategies, policies, and initiatives.
Lead Quality & Patient Care Champion a culture of safety, quality, accountability, and continuous improvement. Advance performance and quality improvement initiatives focused on clinical outcomes, patient care, service, and operational performance. Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory, licensing, accreditation, and organizational standards.
Identify opportunities for improvement, initiate corrective action when necessary, and support accreditation readiness. Partner with nursing, physicians, case management, and other departments to establish and maintain appropriate standards of care. Use data, trends, and performance measures to identify opportunities and improve patient outcomes.
Remain current on advances and best practices in nursing and healthcare leadership and incorporate them into department operations when appropriate. Utilize problem-solving process that results in continued improvement of patient care. Develop People & Build Strong Teams Lead, coach, mentor, and develop team members.
Establish clear goals, expectations, and performance standards while creating a culture of accountability and professional growth. Recruit, select, orient, develop, and evaluate staff. Provide timely recognition, coaching, performance feedback, and corrective action when appropriate.
Conduct regular staff and leadership meetings to address patient care issues, review performance, communicate organizational priorities, and engage employees in problem solving. Establish effective department structures, staffing models, workflows, communication practices, and delegation of responsibilities. Foster collaboration across nursing, medical staff, and interdisciplinary teams.
Elevate the Patient & Employee Experience Maintain a visible leadership presence through rounding with patients, families, physicians, staff, and other departments. Support hospital-wide patient experience and perception-of-care initiatives. Promote timely and effective service recovery.
Identify opportunities to strengthen communication, patient transitions, discharge processes, and continuity of care. Model professionalism and create an environment where employees feel supported, valued, and accountable for delivering exceptional care. Drive Growth & Operational Excellence Develop departmental goals, priorities, and standards aligned with Nursing and organizational objectives.
Evaluate department performance and identify opportunities to improve clinical, operational, and financial outcomes. Lead and support initiatives that prepare departments for the changing healthcare environment. Participate in major operational improvement, technology, redesign, and process-improvement initiatives.
Collaborate across departments to remove barriers and develop sustainable solutions. Partner with nursing and operational leaders across the Powers Health system to leverage best practices, drive standardization and advance consistent, high-quality care across the organization. Manage Financial & Operational Performance Participate in developing short and long-term clinical, operational, and financial goals.
Create staffing plans, departmental goals, and scopes of care. Develop and manage operating and capital budgets for assigned areas. Monitor productivity, staffing, expenditures, and performance against established targets.
Evaluate utilization, length of stay, resource management, and reimbursement considerations. Use data and analysis to identify variances, trends, and opportunities for improvement. Required Bachelor's degree in Nursing. 5-7 years of progressively responsible professional nursing and/or healthcare leadership experience.
Strong knowledge of healthcare operations, patient care standards, regulatory requirements, quality improvement, and nursing leadership. Demonstrated ability to lead teams, develop leaders, manage change, solve complex problems, and collaborate across disciplines. Preferred Master's degree in Nursing, Healthcare/Hospital Administration, Business Administration, or a closely related field, or willingness to pursue a master's degree in the near future.
