PRIMARY FUNCTION The Group Exercise Instructor (GEX) is responsible for providing safe, effective, and engaging group fitness classes for members and guests of Bayou Bend Fitness Center. This position promotes health and wellness through quality instruction, member motivation, and adherence to established exercise standards. The Group Exercise Instructor supports the mission and goals of Bayou Bend Fitness Center and Bayou Bend Health System by fostering a welcoming and inclusive fitness environment.
- & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead safe, effective, and engaging group exercise classes in accordance with established formats, industry standards, and participant needs.
- Prepare and deliver class content that promotes participant success, safety, and enjoyment.
- Educate participants on proper exercise techniques, equipment usage, and training principles.
- Foster a positive, welcoming, and motivating environment for members and guests.
- Monitor participants during class and provide appropriate modifications and progressions when needed.
- Maintain knowledge of current exercise guidelines, fitness trends, and best practices.
- Ensure studios and equipment are maintained in a clean, organized, and safe condition before and after classes.
- Promote group exercise programming, wellness initiatives, special events, and other facility offerings.
- Communicate participant concerns, facility issues, or safety matters to department leadership.
- Perform other duties as assigned. JOB SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required.
- Minimum of two (2) years of group exercise instruction experience preferred.
- Current nationally recognized group fitness certification required (ACE, AFAA, ACSM, NASM, ISSA, Les Mills, or equivalent applicable certification).
- Current CPR/AED certification required.
- Knowledge of exercise science principles, proper exercise techniques, and participant safety guidelines.
- Ability to lead and motivate participants of varying ages, abilities, and fitness levels.
- Strong communication, customer service, and interpersonal skills.
- Professional appearance and commitment to providing exceptional member experiences.
