Job OverviewFairview is looking to hire a full-time Karenni Spoken Language Healthcare Interpreter to join our team! This position primarily works Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with most work completed onsite supporting in-person patient appointments across multiple Fairview locations. As the primary interpreter supporting the Karenni-speaking community, you will play an important role in helping patients and families communicate effectively with their healthcare teams.
While interpreters may be the only team member supporting their specific language, our department has built a strong culture of collaboration and support across all language groups. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys the medical field and wants exposure to a wide variety of specialties and disciplines. As an interpreter, you are an important part of the medical team, helping create a patient-centered experience while supporting the communities we serve.
The role offers meaningful, fulfilling work where you can see firsthand the difference you make for patients and families every day. On-site Spoken Language Healthcare Interpreter's primary function is to provide on-site, in-person language access for all stakeholders involved in the healthcare encounter and will travel to multiple locations when needed. The Healthcare interpreter must also be ready to provide services virtually during downtime to better support the organization.
This position requires demonstrated fluency in at least one source language to at least one other target language. ResponsibilitiesInterpret accurately and completely, conveying the content and spirit of the original message, taking into consideration the cultural context that is responsive to the demands of the situation. Working knowledge of healthcare terminology and physical anatomyWill travel between physical locations as needed to support in-person locations, this could mean travelling to different hospitals/clinics within the organizationProvide sight translation in approved situations when needed, written competency in both English and target languageConsecutive interpretingSimultaneous interpretingManage set-up and flow of communication to promote communicative autonomyFacilitate communication across cultural differences and alerts all parties to significant cultural or linguistic disparities that may significantly impact outcomesAdheres to NCIHC Code of Ethics & Standards of PracticeAdheres to all HIPAA and Patient Privacy standardsRequired QualificationsMinimum of 40 hours formal training w/certificate (ex: The Community Interpreter or Bridging the Gap) or College level courses/certificate in healthcare interpretingA.
A./A.
