POSITION PURPOSE AND SUMMARY Establish, implement and update a system to identify all cases of malignant diseases from all the pertinent ancillary departments; abstract all required data; maintain registry within the American College of Surgeons, Commission on Cancer, standards and Indiana State Cancer Registry requirements at all times. Code topography and morphology using ICD-O coding; review SEER and AJCC staging for discrepancies.
Formulate procedures for manual and/or computer retrieval of cancer registry data; assemble and disseminate data collected; answer requests for data; prepare routine and special reports which summarize the cancer experience for administrative planning; report all required abstracted data to the Indiana State Department of Health. Manage all day to day cancer registry activities; develop and maintain quality control for the cancer registry.
Coordinate and organize cancer conferences and cancer committee meetings. Promote continuum of care of the cancer patient through an active follow-up system. Coordinate cancer screening programs; assist with continuing medical education programs for physicians and ancillary staff; participate in educational programs, in-services, and department meetings.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE : Knowledge of patient care methodology, including data collections, interpretation, and display techniques. Performs lead responsibility for cancer registry, assisting with training, performance review, and coordination of all day to day registry activities. Certified Tumor Registrar is required. 2 years of supervisory or lead experience required.
Eligible for, or certification as, a Registered Health Information Administrator, Registered Health Information Technician preferred.
