The Medical Assistant (MA) Hub position is an essential member of the Cancer Services team, dedicated to providing exceptional patient care and ensuring seamless coordination across clinical and administrative functions. Serving as a vital link between triage nurses, providers, and administrative staff, the MA Hub plays a key role in facilitating timely communication, coordinated care, and an outstanding patient experience throughout the cancer care journey.
Under the supervision of a clinical leader and in alignment with Ambulatory Services policies and procedures, the MA Hub supports patient care delivery across multiple Cancer Services ambulatory group practices. This role provides coverage for various cost centers within the Cancer Center, including multiple campuses and satellite offices. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong clinical knowledge, exceptional attention to detail, and a compassionate, team-oriented approach in a dynamic oncology environment.
Flexibility, adaptability, and the ability to learn and support multiple specialty practices are essential to success in this role. Primary responsibilities include supporting clinical workflows, assisting with patient inquiries, coordinating follow-up care and appointments, managing documentation, and facilitating communication across multidisciplinary teams. The MA Hub also performs patient care and laboratory procedures as needed to support specialty services within the Cancer Center.
DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS % of time Essential Function (Yes/No ) Key Responsibilities (To be completed by Supervisor) 50% Yes Clinical Support Validates and documents patient reported information Performs routine clinical functions and documents in patient chart, including but not limited to fall risk assessment, vital signs, height, weight, pain screening and documentation of chief complaints Follows established safety, environment and infection control standards.
Document use of interpreter as appropriate. Work with interpreting services to facilitate interpreter participation for medical appointments in person, by video or by phone. Assists with medication reconciliation by helping patients to update their medication lists.
Assists Nurses, Providers and patients in preparation for exam and/or procedures. Able to perform sterile processing procedures in outpatient clinic such as Cidex OPA and maintain all appropriate logs. Assist in complex medical procedures such as Colonoscopy, biopsies and ultrasounds.
Successfully complete all appropriate competencies to ensure appropriate training and skill to assist and set up for said procedures. Act as chaperone as needed for medical providers. Transports patients as directed and ensures their safety.
Monitors patient flow in and out of the clinic. Performs simple Point of Care Testing as directed Including QA/QC. Obtains specimens and performs simple laboratory procedures conforming to all policies and procedures related to specimen handling and processing.
Participates in updating mandatory logs (i.e.: temperature log, disaster cabinet log, crash cart log). Complies with all Ambulatory Services and Medical Center policies and procedures for infection control, safety, administrative and clinical practice. Complies with activities mandated by JCAHO/Title 22 Identifies and communicates problems to team and appropriate supervisor.
Notifies providers of patient delays and service issues. Acts and advocate for patients to help facilitate provider punctuality in seeing patients according to schedule. Maintains clean, well-stocked exam rooms, hub rooms and lab.
Responsible for ordering and maintaining supplies. Maintains supply standards as directed by nursing staff or appropriate supervisor. Prepare charts for next day clinic by ensuring all scans, labs, additional tests are completed prior to visit with provider.
Submit and track Genomic test requests from 3 rd party vendors. Upload results in Apex. 20% Yes Patient Care Coordination Collaborates with all members of the practice team in activities to coordinate patient care. Coordinates care and resolves patient care issues.

Assists patients with issues and complaints utilizing conflict management skills. Shares pertinent information and observations with other health team members. Works at check-out station and schedules complex procedures and coordinates services for patients Maintain fax folder and upload documents to patient charts as appropriate 100% REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS All candidates must meet at least one of the following criteria: Certificate of training or graduation from an accredited MA, Home Health Aide, PCA, CNA, dental or paramedic program or college degree in a related field such as community health, infectious disease, public health or health education and 6 months of relevant experience OR 2 years of relevant experience as a Medical Assistant in a hospital or medical practice Must demonstrate excellent organizational skills, including the ability to manage time effectively, prioritize tasks, and maintain accurate records.
Strong computer skills with the ability to efficiently navigate, operate, and troubleshoot standard software applications (e.g., Microsoft Office, web-based platforms, and other relevant tools)." PREFERRED QUALIFICATION Experience with insurance verification, medical record data abstraction, and or patient financial services strongly preferred. Bi-lingual or multi-lingual capability (Spanish, Cantonese, Russian) strongly preferred. Experience working in Ambulatory medical setting
