Department: ICE | CVSL Healthy Heart Department's Website: Summary of Job Duties: The Medical Assistant (MA) works under the direct supervision of the Clinical Services Manager by assisting in the examination and treatment of patients. The MA will conduct patient interviews, measure vital signs (i.e., pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height), and record information on patients' Electronic Medical Record (EMR).

The MA will also draw and collect blood samples from patients and prepare specimens for laboratory analysis. Also prepares treatment rooms for examination of patients. The MA may also perform administrative tasks by registering and scheduling patients for appointments, procedures, etc., using the various registration and scheduling systems.

Schedules and coordinates appointments and surgeries or tests using hospital systems by processing patient visit notifications Conducts pre-registration, inputs and/or updates patient information, processes walk-ins, creates new patient charts, and accesses systems for orders Conducts insurance verification and benefits explanation by running eligibility on patients, requesting outside records, gathering outside medical records from referrals, and files patient charts as needed.

Conducts authorizations and pre-certifications, tracks pre-authorizations, and maintains referrals Ensures adequate stock of supplies, and cleans and maintains equipment and waiting rooms Collects and posts payments and issues receipts.
