A Brief OverviewThe Monitor Technician/Nursing Assistant continually monitors cardiac rhythms on a specific unit, identifies and interprets changes in rhythms and acts appropriately.

Performs clerical duties on a nursing unit, answers the telephone, relays messages, and acts as a receptionist receiving and directing visitors and ambulatory patients. The Monitor Technician/Nursing Assistant is also responsible for direct patient care services as assigned by the Clinical Director and under the supervision of the Registered Nurse.

Perform routine patient care and support services under the supervision of a registered nurse. Monitor and interpret cardiac rhythms of assigned patients through continuous surveillance. Integrate education and technical competence to gain patient cooperation and confidence.

Exercise sound judgment and clinical skills to support the patient's plan of care. Adhere to local, state, and federal regulations, codes, and hospital policies to ensure patient privacy and safety. Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and patients.

Recognize emergency situations and take appropriate action. Manage multiple tasks and prioritize assignments in a dynamic environment. Build collaborative relationships with peers and staff to achieve departmental objectives.

Education QualificationsHigh School Diploma with the successful completion of Medical Terminology, Nursing Assistant or Monitor Tech course preferred. May substitute 2 years previous specific work experience with medical terminology for the Medical Terminology course certification. (Example: HIM Tech, Paralegal, Medical Biller, Medical Secretary, Patient Access Representative) Required or High School Diploma with completion of approved course of study for Nursing Assistant training or successful completion of fundamentals semester of Nursing school preferred.

Experience Qualifications Monitor Technician/Nursing Assistant or relevant experience in a related health care field Preferred Skills and AbilitiesDemonstrated knowledge of basic patient care skills, various medical terminology, views, and equipment. Ability to recognize an emergency and take appropriate action. Written and verbal communications skills to communicate with fellow team members, supervisors, patients, and other personnel.

Advanced knowledge of computer applications, such as Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel and Outlook), electronic medical records (EMR), EPIC, and related information systems. Work independently, as well as be part of the team, including accomplishing multiple tasks in an environment with interruptions.

Identify, evaluate and resolve standard problems by selecting appropriate solutions from established options. Ability to build collaborate relationships with peers and other staff members to achieve departmental and corporate objectives.
