Licensure
✓MD Special Police Commission - MDSPC within 180 Days required
Certifications
✓Qualifies to carry firearms within 180 Days required
✓Must have 40 hours of initial firearms certification training from a certified police instructor authorized in the appropriate geographic region.
✓Must successfully complete all MedStar initial training related to violence prevention de-escalation and crisis prevention intervention.
✓CPR - Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation (includes BLS and NRP) for healthcare providers from either the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross within 90 Days required
✓Additional unit/specialty certifications may vary by department or business unit.
IAHSS - Certification As A Security Officer (Advanced) preferred
Education
✓High School Diploma or GED required or
Associate's degree preferred
Qualifications
✓2 years of Medstar satisfactory performance as a security officer I - armed. required
✓Exceptions to the 2-year requirement may be considered based on extensive relevant external armed security officer/prior law enforcement job experience demonstration of knowledge and proficiency within the medstar environment. required
✓DL - Valid State Driver's License in good standing required
✓Must complete in-service training requirement of qualifying weapon twice a year.
✓Verbal and written communication skills.
✓Strong interpersonal skills. Ability to remain calm and thoughtful during a crisis.
✓Ability to assist in de-escalating situations with strong emotions and conflict.
Basic computer skills preferred.
