Oncology Nurse Triage Specialist

This role specializes in providing care and treatment to patients with cancer by providing telephonic triage in order to assist callers in determining the most appropriate level of care needed. Provides and facilitates coordinated patient care in compliance with professional practice and practice standards. Responsible for the telephonic/electronic intake, assessment, planning, coordination, and implementation of standardized protocols relating to patient symptoms and dispensation of medical advice.

This role demonstrates and models a full range of nursing professional practice in both care provided and in participation in development of strategies to improve patient outcomes, satisfaction with services, and cost effectiveness. Serves as a liaison throughout the healthcare system and community. This patient-centered position delivers services with focus on customer service and symptom management.

Work Experience Work Orientation &

Minimum of three (3) years’ advanced skills and appropriate level of clinical expertise in the field of oncology and/or critical care is required. Knowledge of nursing theory, practice and education in order to conduct patient triage, intake, and assessment and to participate in the case management process. Clinical knowledge regarding specialty services, knowledge of adult learning theory, evaluation methods and generally accepted training and development practices.

Refined communication, critical assessment and thinking skills. Skills & Abilities: Ability to: a) monitor, assess, and record patient progress against a plan of care; b) convey effective verbal and written communications between infusion center, oncology practice, cancer care team and related programs; c) adjust the plan of care based on assessed changes in patients status; d) handle multiple priorities; e) work collaboratively with the multi–disciplinary team; f) work independently and take initiative to achieve favorable patient outcomes.

Demonstrate skills in: g) planning, implementing, and evaluating patient services; h) making effective decisions; i) critical thinking and problem-solving skills; j) crisis management; k) telephone triage management; l) verbal and written patient and staff educational programs; m) chemotherapy teaching n) organizing work, setting priorities, meeting deadlines; o) working with physicians and other team members to coordinate patient care; p) ability to work successfully with diverse types of individuals including, management staff, general public, and team members; q) facilitating patient access to community; r) is computer literate with proficiency in data management skills, word processing and electronic medical records Benefits Part Time (8am-4:30pm) Monday through Friday 24 hours a week.

$35.08 - $52.64/hr.
