Under the direction of the Director of Environmental Services (Environmental, Linen, Patient Transport) performs a variety of duties involving direction, supervision and training of Environmental Service personnel and activities. In support of BH mission and integrated delivery system, the Manager is responsible for BMC and support to satellite locations. Responsibilities include performing a wide variety of administrative duties including coordination, supervision and direction of assigned personnel and their activities.
Complete accountability for 24 hour operations, including off-shift exposure. Perform other similar and related duties as required or directed including full responsibility of Department in the absence of the Director. Direct and supervise assigned personnel and activities personally or through subordinate Supervisors, including evaluations, scheduling, orientation and training, setting performance objectives, recommendations on employee hiring, transferring, promotion, disciplinary actions, wage changes, termination and similar actions.
Resolve employee issues and other personnel problems within position responsibility.
1) Direct and supervise personnel and activities, including evaluation, scheduling, orientation, and training. Make a final determination on employee hiring, transfer, promotion, wage changes, discipline, termination, and similar actions. Refer questionable cases or problems to the Director or others.
Interview prospective employees, making recommendations on employee hiring, transferring, promotion, disciplinary actions, wage changes, termination, and similar actions. Resolve employee issues and other personnel problems. Control staffing to budget.
Orient and train new hires; competency standards and credentialing of technical positions, where appropriate. Develop employees to the highest levels of performance. Assure employee training and understanding in order to comply with OSHA, JCAHO, and Department of Public Health regulations and response to emergencies.
Respond to complaints and other comments from patients, administration, and other personnel in a timely and accurate manner. 2) Coordinate and monitor activities relating to Environmental Service and Off-Site locations. Oversee work schedules of responsible areas. Ensure adequate and timely delivery of material throughout Baystate Health. 3) Direct activities related to centralized Environmental Service equipment, supply delivery, and routine and STAT service calls for Environmental Services.
Oversee and coordinate overall institutional needs for equipment and vehicles. Justify purchases. Assist in formulating purchase requests.
Make recommendations and implement procedures to improve Environmental Services. Complies with BH Premier Purchasing Program across the Health System; collaborates with BH Corporate Purchasing Policies, including involvement with agreements or contracts. Ensure adequate inventory level of materials and supplies.
Ensure submission of requisitions for replacement. Make recommendations to the director concerning new or alternative items. Investigate, evaluate, and implement, as required, new methods, procedures, and equipment.
Maintain various records and prepare reports as required . 4) Orient designated hospital personnel to environmental services functions as required. Serve as liaison to other Baystate Health departments. Monitor customer expectations through satisfaction plans and measurement tools to ensure adequacy of service.
Coordinate/administer department committees and work teams. Inspect service proposals to ensure compliance. Check the work of staff to ensure compliance with applicable safety and environmental regulations and document the process of results via the Standard QA System. 5) Prepare annual goals, objectives, and new program requests.
Monitor and maintain costs. Document activity and report productivity statistics to appropriate personnel as directed . Oversee Department operations to ensure cost-effective and efficient performance within budgeting limits.
Participate in the development and implementation of departmental goals and objectives, as well as the preparation of departmental capital budget. Directly control cost center fiscal performance, including budgets, productivity, benchmarking, capital, and new programs. Manages accounting of cost centers, end-of-month reports, trending, volumes, distribution reports, etc.
Flexes labor and supplies to volume; reports variances to FLEX budget. Resolve grievances and other personnel problems within position responsibility.

Actively solves problems and issues among staff. Proven leadership and communication skills fostering positive employee relations and interdepartmental collaboration. Demonstrated skills in financial management and information system applications in Environmental Services, PRL management, and customer service.
Actively monitored employee turnover and implemented programs to increase retention. Conducts daily inspection tours throughout assigned units of the Medical Center and Health System. Assures proper personnel coverage, checks for cleanliness, and conforms to established cleaning standards and maintenance needs with appropriate personnel.
Follow up on related problems to ensure corrective measures and completion. 8) Coordinate and develop efforts with administrators, department directors, and subordinate and supervisory personnel. Work with appropriate personnel planning, budgeting, monitoring, resource allocations, and related issues on an interdepartmental basis . Develop and implement new program initiatives and plan program and service modifications.
Assure conformance of operating manuals. Conduct and attend various meetings, discussions, conferences, committees, and seminars , both within and/or outside the Medical Centers. Conducted new product evaluations, secured MSDS Sheets, and reported results to the Director, Leadership, and Quality Improvement Committee.
Develop a system to prioritize and track projects 9) Evaluate equipment for operational safety and usefulness. Review and revise operational policies and procedures. Develop/administer a comprehensive training and education program covering such aspects as safety, infection control, and hazardous materials Required Work
5 years of supervisory or manager experience. Preferred Work
Equivalent level of experience in health care or hospitality management. Skills and Competencies: Documented skills in financial management. Documented skills in information system applications.
Proven leadership and communication skills fostering positive employee relations and interdepartmental collaboration. Possess an understanding of safety management, hazardous materials management, emergency preparedness management, and environmental management. Possess an understanding of causes and methods of transmitting infection (e.g., contact, airborne, common vehicle, vector-borne).
GED or HiSET (Required)
Compensation Note: The compensation range(s) in the table below represent the base salaries for all positions at a given grade across the health system. Typically, a new hire can expect a starting salary somewhere in the lower part of the range. Actual salaries may vary by position and will be determined based on the candidate's relevant experience.
No employee will be paid below the minimum of the range.
