This position is straight nights Title and starting pay rate of this position may vary based on years of experience. Patient Care Provide direct patient care, including assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as bathing, feeding, toileting, ambulating, transporting, turning, and repositioning patients.
Perform and maintain competency in UPMC core nursing assistant responsibilities, including: Vital signs Blood glucose monitoring and other point-of-care testing Weights Intake and output (I&O) documentation Specimen collection Foley catheter care Telemetry monitor application and reapplication Hospital-acquired condition and patient safety indicator monitoring Assist with patient procedures, physical therapy, respiratory therapy, and cardiopulmonary therapies.
Observe, report, and provide feedback to the RN regarding patient condition and changes in patient status. Provide patient and family education under the direction of the RN. Apply, monitor, and remove restraints in accordance with physician orders and hospital policy.
Transport patients, including cardiac-monitored patients, throughout the hospital. Advanced Clinical Skills Successfully complete the Basic Arrhythmia course and perform designated advanced clinical skills based on department needs. Phlebotomy 12-lead EKGs Simple dressing changes Bladder scanning Straight catheterization Foley catheter insertion, removal, and care IV catheter insertion, removal, and dressing changes Femoral hemostasis Complex wound care NG tube clamping and removal Documentation and Compliance Document patient care accurately and timely in the medical record according to established procedures. Must meet one of the following
Two (2) years of general healthcare experience and meet the requirements of the Patient Care Technician role; or One (1) year of general healthcare experience and current enrollment in a Physical Therapy (PT), Occupational Therapy (OT), or Physician Assistant (PA) program with completion of at least one clinical rotation; or One (1) year of general healthcare experience and completion of a bachelor's degree in a health sciences field.
Successful completion of the Patient Care Technician Senior class. Successful completion of eRecord training. Annual completion of a professional contribution, as determined after hire.
Nursing student who has completed at least one clinical rotation. Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Paramedic certification. Currently enrolled in an EMT or Paramedic program.
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification. Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification required within 30 days of hire. Certification must meet American Heart Association (AHA) standards and include both didactic and hands-on skills demonstration components.
