The Performance Improvement Specialist will support quality and performance improvement initiatives, patient safety, regulatory, and support evidence-based practices. The position will also support the development of a culture of continuous improvement within the organization and facilitate organizational performance improvement events. Leads and facilitates clinical and/or operational process improvement initiatives across the organization using clinical/process improvement methodologies, project management strategies, leadership, and change management skills to achieve outcome improvements.
Collaborates with staff, leadership, and patients in multidisciplinary teams to strategize, develop and achieve goals for improving the delivery of consistently safe, effective, efficient, patient-centered, timely and equitable care. JOB QUALIFICATIONS Education or Formal Training Bachelor’s degree is required with preference given to individuals with a degree in Hospital Administration, Business Administration, Organizational Development, Nursing or ancillary area (Medical Technologist, Pharmacist, Rad Technician).
Special Qualifications (Licensure, Registration, etc.) Evidence of relevant education/training in the areas of Lean, performance improvement, change management and/or project management Knowledge, Skill and Ability Knowledge of Lean methodologies and deployment experience required. Able to drive change up and down the organization through the facilitation of cross functional teams. Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify performance gaps and develop effective solutions.
Excellent project management and organizational skills to prioritize and manage multiple improvement initiatives. Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with teams across the organization. Proven ability to drive change and foster a culture of continuous improvement.
Able to use Microsoft Office tools with moderate degree of complexity. Strong leadership, facilitation, interpersonal, team building, project management, written and verbal communication and conflict resolution skills. Basic statistical analysis and data management skills.
Experience Minimum 5 years’ experience working in a healthcare setting required. Minimum 3 years’ experience in healthcare quality improvement required. MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT DIRECTLY USED None specified.
Working environment/Physical Activities Must be able to stand for long periods of time. Requires full range of body motion including manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Must be able to squat and stoop for long periods of time to access files and cabinets from chest height to floor level.
Must be able to move between offices and multiple campus sites. Able to grasp and lift files weighing up to 2# and push supply cart weighing up to 10# through department and hospital. Requires normal visual acuity and hearing.
Sits for long periods of time and must be able to answer phones, greet public. Must be able to do data entry for prolonged periods of time. Ability to write, dictate or otherwise communicate.
Ability to hear normal level conversations and to recall and record information. Must be able to travel between office and all facilities.
AND RESPONSIBILITIES Facilitates improvement events such as Rapid Improvement Events (RIEs) and A3, as well as other improvements, ensuring standard work is adhered to for adequate preparation and planning and follow-through. Conducts education and training in support of Performance Improvement methodologies. Develops and adheres to standard work to attain future state goals for assigned Improvement Projects.
Ensures and promotes adherence Performance Improvement established standard work for RIE Activities across the organization to include, but not limited to, event preparation, A3 review, employment engagement, participant surveys and other event-related tasks. Embraces and upholds Encore! Values.
Maintains a neat and professional appearance, demonstrates commitment and dependability. Employees are expected to comply with all regulatory requirements, including Joint Commission Standards. Is familiar with organization, department and job specific Environment of Care areas, including Life Safety, Utilities Management, Hazardous Materials Communications, Emergency Preparedness, Infection Control and Medical Equipment Failure.
Adheres to Standard Precautions as appropriate, which may include: the use of protective barriers, as appropriate (e.g., gloves, masks, gowns, pocket masks, and/or safety glasses); handling and disposing of infectious waste appropriately; and hand washing as appropriate. Establishes and maintains effective, professional working relationships with employees, department directors, physicians, other hospital departments, outside agencies and the public.
