Job Overview We at Fairview are looking for a dedicated Psychiatric Associate to join the hardworking Emergency Room Riverside side location on the University of Minnesota Campus! The Psych Associate is responsible for the delivery of patient care and promotion of a therapeutic environment as delegated by and under the direction of the Registered Nurse so that goals and objectives of treatment are achieved on each unit as assigned.

Typical work schedule is 60 hours, every two weeks on the night shift, 7:00PM - 7:30AM, working 12 hour shifts, including every third weekend with a variable schedule. This position is SEIU benefit eligible. ResponsibilitiesMaintains safety of patient and staff by conducting the following as assigned: Conducts safety checks of patients through visual observation and documentation.

Conducts room, belonging and unit searches. Responds and participates in de-escalation of patient including physical intervention as trained. Actively participates in milieu management with treatment team collaboration.

Performs basic patient daily living routines and procedures according to treatment plan. Demonstrates knowledge of signs/symptoms of mental health diagnoses and therapeutic interactions and milieu management. Conducts educational programming with individual and/or patient groups according to appropriate treatment plan.

Responds to emergency situations as trained per policy. Participates in the treatment team’s mission, goals and plans. Acts as a member of the multi-disciplinary therapeutic team.

Exhibits verbal communication in a timely, thorough, and professional manner. Possesses knowledge of current issues, changes and updates in Behavioral Services policies and procedures. ADLs & Physical Support Provide light to medium ADL assistance, including hygiene, grooming, dressing, oral care, toileting, eating and mobility support.

Assist with supplies, setup, and patient direction regarding basic care routines. Provide mobility support appropriate to training (e.g., gait belts, wheelchair assistance). Required Qualifications2 years Experience in mental health, healthcare, or school setting (NA, NST, PCA, behavioral tech, etc.) AND Demonstrated experience working with vulnerable individuals or high acuity behavioral needs.

Basic Life Support (American Heart Assoc, Red Cross)

B. S./B. A. in Psychology, Sociology, Human Services, Health Care, Social Work, Criminal Justice or related field.
