✓Certified by the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) or American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) as CPC, CCS, RHIT, or RHIA.
Specialty certification in Radiology Coding preferred.
Education
✓Graduate of Health Information Management, Medical Coding, or related healthcare program.
Associate degree or higher preferred.
Qualifications
✓Must be capable of following verbal and written instructions and should practice diplomacy in dealing with physicians and clinical staff.
✓Will participate in ongoing education through workshops, in-service programs, and updates from CMS, CPT, ICD-10-CM, HCPCS, Medicare Administrative Contractors, and other payors.
✓Must be familiar with medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, disease processes, and radiological procedures.
✓Demonstrates knowledge of CPT, ICD-10-CM, HCPCS, National Correct Coding Initiative (NCCI) edits, Medicare regulations, and payer-specific requirements.
✓Must be able to accurately assign diagnostic and procedural codes for diagnostic and interventional radiology services.
✓Abides by the Standards of Ethical Coding as set forth by AHIMA and AAPC.
✓Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing with physicians, clinical staff, administration, and external review organizations as required.
