✓Requirements
Licensure
✓Current Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) license required.
✓Current Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential through the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) required.
✓Respiratory Therapists who earned their RRT credential after July 1, 2002, must maintain certification in accordance with NBRC requirements.
✓Effective November 1, 2025, individuals practicing in New York with a valid New York Respiratory Therapist license must also maintain a valid RRT credential.
✓Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) License
✓Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) Credential
Certifications
✓Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification required.
✓CPR certification must meet American Heart Association (AHA) standards and include both didactic and hands-on skills demonstration components within 30 days of hire.
Qualifications
✓Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills.
✓Ability to interpret arterial blood gases, pulmonary function testing, and other respiratory diagnostic data.
✓Knowledge of respiratory care equipment, including mechanical ventilators and oxygen delivery systems.
✓Ability to respond effectively in emergency and critical care situations.
✓Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across interdisciplinary healthcare teams.
✓Commitment to delivering compassionate, patient-centered care.
Previous respiratory care experience in an acute care setting preferred.
