RN, Hospice

The registered nurse (RN) provides compassionate, evidence-based, and efficient care to individuals, families, communities, and patient populations. You will be evaluating patient needs, creating care plans, and providing end-of-life guidance and support to patients and their families. The RN will be collaborating with physicians and multidisciplinary team members; providing physical and psychological support to patients, friends, and families; supervising assigned team members.

Follows established professional standards of care, agency guidelines, policy and procedures, and instruct on safety. The RN’s care delivery is consistent with the Oklahoma Nurse Practice Act, the American Nurses Association (ANA) Scope and Standards of Practice, and the ANA Code of Ethics. Professional accountability enriches the RN’s engagement as a leader in promoting an inter-professional culture of collaborative decision-making, innovation, life-long learning, and teamwork.

RESPONSIBILITIES (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS): Restores and promotes patient’s health by completing the nursing process including assessment, analysis of data, establishing goals, prioritizing and implementing interventions, and evaluating outcomes. Travel in a company or own vehicle to multiple homes and facilities will be necessary to provide the care and services to the patients.

Collaborates with physicians/providers, and multidisciplinary team members. Identifies patient care needs by establishing personal rapport with patients and their families and provides emotional, psychological, and spiritual support. Identifies patient and family education needs and utilizes appropriate resources to meet those needs.

Assures quality of care by adhering to therapeutic and regulatory standards; administers medications and treatments prescribed by any person authorized by state law to prescribe. Protects patients and team members by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols; medication administration and storage procedures; and controlled substance regulations. Documents patient care services timely and accurately.

Maintains patient confidence and protects operations by keeping information confidential. Delegating tasks as may safely be performed by others, consistent with educational preparation and that do not conflict with the provisions of the Oklahoma Nursing Practice Act. Ensures operation of equipment by verifying preventive maintenance requirements are met; calling for repairs; and evaluating new equipment and techniques.

Maintains professional and technical knowledge through continuing education opportunities including internal and external educational offerings. Maintains a cooperative relationship among health care teams by communicating information and participating in team problem-solving methods. Appropriately adapts assessment, treatment, and/or care methods to accommodate the physical, cultural, age-specific, and other developmental needs of each person served.

Regular attendance and punctuality for scheduled shifts. Must adhere to safety protocols at all times. Utilization of assistive devices for lifting is mandatory.

Implement DRH Standards of Behavior and exhibit behaviors consistent with DRH core values. Per DRH policy, all required conditions of employment must be met and maintained including required vaccinations. This position requires respirator and fit testing.

Required testing will be performed on all team members at risk for exposure to airborne infectious diseases, droplet producing procedures, or any caustic chemicals. Performs other similar duties as assigned.
