This position is primarily responsible for assisting the Ethics and Compliance Program in satisfying the seven essential elements of an effective compliance program, including: (1) assisting the compliance officer, compliance committee, compliance directors, and/or compliance managers as needed; (2) developing, reviewing, and/or revising compliance policies and procedures, including standards of conduct; (3) assisting with the development and maintenance of open lines of communication; (4) developing, delivering, and/or managing the delivery of appropriate specialized and general compliance training and education; (5) responding to detected offenses; (6) managing internal monitoring and auditing activities; and (7) assisting with the enforcement of disciplinary standards.
Responsibilities And Duties: 1. Compliance Program Operations: 75% Assist with the execution of multiple, concurrent, time-sensitive, complex projects, including: Drafting and/or revising policies and procedures i.e., , compliance program policies as well as departmental procedure s ; Drafting and editing compliance program publications including OhioHealth's Code of Conduct, the Ethics and Compliance Departments eSource Web page, and other OhioHealth compliance articles and publication s ; Assisting with documenting the annual compliance risk analysis; Assisting in the completion of the annual compliance effectiveness review; Developing compliance communications; Overseeing the compliance exit interview processes; Assisting in the management of the OhioHealth Hotline i.e., , the Ethics and Compliance Hotlink e to include assigning reported matters and preparing all related reports; Assisting subject matter experts with the review and revision of general and specialized training and education e. g. , Initial Compliance Education as well as Annual Compliance Education module s . 2.
Ethics and Compliance Senior Leadership Committee: 20% Preparing reports for senior management as well as providing overall support to the Ethics and Compliance Senior Leadership Committee Boar d , including: preparing committee meeting materials, minutes, and other reports, as appropriate. 5. 7 to 10 years SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE Degree with five years of direct and/or related experience. Business writing, editing, publishing, and drafting reports, policies and procedures, articles, and/or white papers. Supports implementation, tracking, and ongoing compliance with regulatory agreement requirements, including reportable events, training obligations, disclosure requirements, certification processes, and annual reporting activities.
Partners with Legal, Internal Audit, Privacy, Revenue Cycle, Human Resources, Clinical Operations, Finance, and operational leaders to support compliance risk mitigation and ethical decision-making. Monitors changes in health care laws, regulations, enforcement guidance, and industry standards, including requirements related to Medicare, Medicaid, billing, coding, referral relationships, conflicts of interest, HIPAA, Stark Law, the Anti-Kickback Statute, and OIG guidance.
Analyzes compliance data, audit results, hotline reports, investigation trends, and operational metrics to identify risk areas, emerging issues, and opportunities for improvement. Prepares clear, accurate, and timely reports, dashboards, summaries, and supporting documentation for compliance leadership, committees, governing bodies, and external reviewers, as needed. Conducts investigations, including issue intake, fact gathering, documentation review, root-cause analysis, and development of corrective and preventive action recommendations.
Minimum of five years of experience in relevant fields such as compliance, legal, human resources, training and education, communications, internal audit, Joint Commission, clinical quality and patient safety, and/or health information management. Certification in Healthcare Compliance (CHC) by the Health Care Compliance Association is preferred. If the candidate does not have the CHC credential, they must be willing to earn the credential within twelve months from the date of hire.
DESIRED ATTRIBUTES Bachelor’s degree. Experience developing and revising compliance-related policies. Experience with sanction exclusion screening, conflicts of interest, and compliance requirements in a research institute.
Experience conducting investigations related to allegations of noncompliance. Experience developing compliance education materials and providing training to the workforce. Work
