We are hiring a Senior Research Associate (Part-time) to join UTHealth McGovern Medical School, Department of Microbiology & Molecular Genetics in Houston, TX 77030. In this role, you will design, plan, execute, and analyze experiments relevant to various research projects in the lab involving parasitic flatworm development and its relation to host interactions. You will participate in tasks related to animal and parasite maintenance, as well as other lab chores.
You will summarize and communicate your research findings in the form of oral and written presentations (e.g., grant proposal, manuscript, conference). Specialized knowledge and skills in harvesting, handling, culturing, and manipulating schistosomes, as well as infecting, handling, euthanasia, and decontamination of intermediate/definitive hosts, strongly preferred. The Senior Research Associate provides project management for research projects of considerable scope and complexity. Decisions impact the success of the research project(s). Position Key Accountabilities: Collects, evaluates, interprets, and documents research data to accomplish the objectives of a wide variety of scientific experiments using sophisticated equipment and applying complex techniques, methods, and procedures.
Provides project management for a wide variety of research experiments in support of research project desired outcomes, budgets, and timelines. Maintains quality control checks and a safe environment in compliance with all governmental and University policies, rules, regulations, and codes. Evaluates and interprets data and provides results to investigators to support publication.
Provides direction and training to lab staff to ensure efficient, timely and high quality results in compliance with all protocols, guidelines, regulations, etc. Assist in the preparation and writing of research reports, manuscripts, papers and grant proposals for presentation and publication. May oversee study inclusion, the development and tracking the progress of participants and cases.
Influences project direction and outcomes by identifying opportunities to enhance, re-terminate, or re-direct research activities. May monitor and revise, as necessary, the project timeline, budget, expenditures, and supplies. Prepares communications of research results for the public and/or funding organizations.
May mentor fellows, graduate students and others as appropriate in support of the University's mission. Performs other duties as assigned.
