The Simulation Coordinator is responsible for providing daily, hands-on operational support and direction in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of simulation activities at one or more GME Simulation Centers/Labs.
Primary responsibilities include simulation operations, equipment and technology readiness, troubleshooting, and support for multiple GME programs, including Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine, and Surgery. The Simulation Coordinator ensures that faculty and staff follow established processes and support data-driven decisions in the development and execution of simulation center educational objectives.
The Simulation Coordinator works collaboratively with HCA GME Leadership, including program directors, faculty and staff, as well as hospital administration, to drive simulation activities and operations. The Simulation Coordinator will employ a high degree of judgment and independence to effectively solve problems, troubleshoot simulation equipment and technology, build strong internal and external relationships, deliver well-designed processes, and maintain a thorough, organized, and learner-ready simulation lab.
The Simulation Coordinator provides operational oversight of graduate medical education simulation programs to ensure a positive learning environment that advances GME learning objectives. In partnership with program directors, faculty, and senior GME simulation leadership, the Simulation Coordinator supports simulation curriculum and assessment activities. The Simulation Coordinator oversees data collection to evaluate learning outcomes and support applicable ACGME simulation requirements.
This position also coordinates simulation resources to ensure reliable delivery and fidelity of curricula and assessments while enhancing teamwork and collaborative practice. ***This position is responsible for simulation operations at HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital (~60%) and HCA Florida St. Lucie Hospital (~30%), but will include approximately 10% local travel to support other East Florida Division facilities.*** DUTIES INCLUDE BUT NOT LIMITED TO: Maintain awareness of current practices in medical simulation training.
Independently plan and implement special projects. Manage simulation operations, evaluation, and review process. Provide both group and individual mentoring of best practices in simulation pedagogy to faculty and staff across all programs.
Work closely with senior leadership to prepare supporting documentation as required for ACGME accreditation standards. Ensure department alignment with organizational strategic goals and key results. Develop and implement policies, procedures and practice standards consistent with simulation center mission and educational objectives.
Prepare summary and other reports as necessary and present reports to GME leadership. Develop and maintain a positive working relationship with internal and external personnel, partners, stakeholders and constituents, including outside agencies and vendors. Contribute to the development and management of simulation center budgets and accounts including gathering, analyzing and synthesizing appropriate data and reports.
Participate in appropriate national organizations to keep abreast of new concepts to provide optimal and continually updated technologies and service to meet the needs of the HCA GME. HIGHLY PREFERRED EXPERIEINCE Knowledge of Graduate Medical Education simulation. Knowledge in SSH simulation accreditation and standards.
Knowledge of ACGME accreditation standards and milestones. Clinical or healthcare experience in high-acuity or emergency-response environments, including experience as a paramedic, EMT, respiratory therapist, or nurse. MINIMUM QUALIFICATION/EDUCATION Bachelor’s degree.
(Required) Minimum three years’ experience in simulation-based mastery learning. (Required) Minimum three years’ experience as simulation operations specialist or tech. (Required) May substitute a combination of clinical experience and healthcare education experience to meet this requirement.
/EDUCATION Society for Simulation in Healthcare Certification, (CHSOS or CHSE), preferred but may obtain within first 12 months of employment. LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing Excellent presentation skills SKILLS Ability to think strategically, critically analyze and synthesize data and scientific information Ability to coordinate and facilitate the work of committees, councils, vendors, and other groups Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment on multiple projects Ability to plan and execute complex educational initiatives, including developing work plans, promotion plans, schedules, budgets.
Strong working knowledge of the requirements and regulations of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education related to the planning and conducting of continuing medical education program. Proficient in the use of computers and software for word processing, database management, spreadsheet, presentation graphics, and desktop publishing programs.
