• Language Pathologist (Speech Pathologist 2) works with pediatric patients across the age continuum – infants, children, adolescents – and from diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds providing both direct and indirect patient care services. Under general direction and upon receipt of written referrals, the Staff Speech
• Language Pathologist plans and administers a full range of speech therapy services for patients with a variety of physical and cognitive impairments. Services include patient evaluations using speech-language pathology tests and measurements, establishment of therapeutic intervention goals and development of therapeutic intervention programs, and implementation of therapeutic intervention plans utilizing all aspects of the speech-language pathology scope of practice. DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS % of time Essential Function (Yes/No ) Key Responsibilities (To be completed by Supervisor) 75% YES Direct and Indirect Patient Care Performs speech-language pathology evaluations on referral by a licensed provider and administers various neurological, dysphagia, cognitive-linguistic, voice, and speech-language tests to determine a patient’s functional limitations. Establishes short- and long-term therapeutic goals based on results of the evaluation and in consultation with the referring provider and caregiver/family. Develops a therapeutic plan of care based on results of the evaluation and established goals. Makes appropriate changes in therapeutic interventions based on the patient’s progress and performance. Administers direct patient care utilizing the full range of occupational therapy techniques and methods within scope of practice and level of competence, appropriate to the patient’s goals and plan of care. Delegates and supervises any part of the patient’s therapeutic intervention which can be legally and appropriately done by support staff. Completes all aspects of discharge planning as appropriate. Prepares and maintains accurate and timely patient care records as required by policy and payer requirements, including services rendered, progress notes, discharge notes, charges for services provided, and third-party payer reports (eg CCS, Medi
• Cal) Communicates effectively and efficiently with patients, caregivers/families, department staff, managers, and other clinical personnel. Reports on patient progress at various rounds, clinics, and team conferences as indicated. Demonstrates effective time management and organization skills. 15% YES Educational Responsibilities Participates in staff inservice education programs, staff and team meetings. Participates in orientation and training of new staff. Participates in, and provides, programs to the community and other hospital departments. Participates in clinical precepting of affiliating speech-language pathology interns and clinical fellows, and in departmental education activities related to students in other health care professions (eg. Nursing, Medicine, Occupational Therapy). Seeks appropriate opportunities for ongoing education and professional development. 10% YES Departmental Responsibilities Participates in department quality assurance and performance improvement activities. Masters degree with clinical fellowship If graduated 15 or more years ago, a bachelor’s degree Minimum one year of patient care experience. Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing. Ability to recognize signs of distress.

Basic computer skills including work within Epic electronic medical record. Possession of good interpersonal, time management, problem solving and self-initiation skills. This position requires flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations.

Minimum one year of licensed experience as a Speech-Language Pathologist working with pediatric populations. Prior speech pathology experience in an academic medical center environment. Prior experience working on an interdisciplinary health provider team.

Current Pediatric FEES and/or MBSS competence Required Licenses/

Possession of or proven eligibility for licensure as a Speech Language Pathologist by the Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology Board of California. Possession of or proven eligibility for CPR certification .
