Supervise and coordinate the technical operations of the assigned cost center to ensure that accurate and timely laboratory services are provided to assist physicians in the diagnosis and treatment of patients.
Develop and implement policies and procedures for assigned area. Ensure compliance with Shands Jacksonville Policies and Procedures. Provide supervision and leadership to the staff.
Work closely with other supervisors to coordinate laboratory functions. Prepare and manage assigned cost center budget. Schedule staff and make workstation assignments.
Work as a technologist when necessary. Ensure all regulatory, licensing and accreditation requirements are fulfilled for assigned areas. Perform all assigned duties in a caring and professional manner to serve as a model to create an environment where the patient and the customer are of primary importance.
Responsibilities Updates section to adhere to any changes in accreditation standards prepares technical sections and staff for inspections. Ensure staff are trained and competent to perform patient testing. Reviews daily work to check for completeness, obvious errors or omissions.
Reviews Critical Result documentation performed by staff. Monthly staffing schedule is created to adequately cover all shifts and post at least one week before the beginning of the new month with vacation and other staff time off fairly considered. Maintains good inventory control practices, makes recommendations, and implements needed changes to par levels and product availability; monitors supply shortages, recalls, substitutions, and maintains cost effectiveness.
Coordinates selection, evaluation, and implementation of new equipment and systems. Adheres to the quality control policies in performing, resulting, troubleshooting, and documenting all quality control activities. Issues unable to be resolved are reported promptly to leadership.
Assists in the provision of direct supervision and leadership for all functions of the specialty to include disciplinary action, the hire and termination process, and employee performance review. Provide instruction and training in theory, technical skills, safety protocols, and laboratory procedures to students and employees. Performs laboratory testing with accuracy and precision specific to the assigned section for the treatment and diagnosis of diseases.
Performs and documents preventative maintenance and troubleshooting records to maintain high quality laboratory service. Perform all other duties as assigned by management within job scope. Qualifications Required
Bachelor's Degree. Associate's Degree with +8y relevant work experience may be accepted in lieu of Bachelor's Degree. Preferred
Master's Degree Required Licensure/Certifications: Florida licensed as a Clinical Laboratory Supervisor in assigned area within three (3) months of hire or transfer. Required
Over 5 years - Technologist, Histocompatibility Technologist, Histotechnologist or Cytotechnologist. Preferred
Supervisor experience. Supervision: Supervisory responsibility of 30 employees. Budgetary Responsibility: Responsible for annual budget of $2,500,000.00.
Preferred Licensure/Certifications: Florida licensed as a Clinical Laboratory Supervisor National certification from ASCP Board of Certification (BOC) for assigned work areas Necessary
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to work well under pressure to complete deadlines. Demonstrate appropriate computer skills.
Technically competent in principles and procedures of assigned laboratory disciplines. Understanding of laboratory regulatory issues. Age of Patients Served: All Age Groups.
