Under the direction of the clinical manager, and supervision of the surgeon, registered nurses, and other surgical personnel, a surgical technologist, also known as surgical tech or operating room technician, is a crucial member of the surgical team. Their primary role involves preparing the operating room by setting up surgical instruments, sterile drapes, and other equipment. This position assists surgeons during the procedures by passing instruments, holding retractors, and managing surgical supplies.

Surgical techs must maintain a sterile environment to prevent infections. This role must have a thorough knowledge of surgical procedures and aseptic techniques. The scope of their responsibility can vary depending on the complexity of surgeries performed.

Surgical Technician

High School diploma or equivalent required. Technical Diploma in Surgical Technology required. Associate Degree in Surgical Technology preferred.

Graduate from an accredited surgical technology program required. BLS/CPR required upon hire or obtain prior to patient care. Certified Surgical Technologist preferred.

Extensive experience in a variety of surgical specialties Demonstrated ability to mentor and train other staff members 2+ years of experience in perioperative area Active membership in professional organizations such as the Association of Surgical Technologists (AST) Proficiency with the latest surgical instruments and technology, including minimally invasive and robotic surgical systems Experience with quality improvement projects and safety initiatives within the surgical department Ability to adapt to new procedures and protocols Benefits & Perks: your health and happiness matters!
