Makes pre-operative calls to discusses discharge plans, obtains patient information, and answers questions. Makes post-operative calls within two weeks of surgery, using clinical judgment to direct care based on shared information. Previews charts pre-operatively, documenting pertinent information including surgical clearances.
Collates, distributes, and discusses post-op discharge instructions with patients and referring physicians. Discusses patient care and necessary home equipment with homecare nurses and arranges medical supplies. Assists medical assistants in maintaining patient flow and reviews physician schedules.
Performs patient intake and conducts physical examinations. E-Prescribes, writes (with physician's signature), faxes, and/or phones in prescriptions per practice protocols. Examines post-operative patients and performs wound checks for infections.
Assists physician at collegiate and professional sporting events and providing field coverage. Other duties as assigned. Assists during hospital rounds and liaises between physician and outside consulting physicians.
