Demonstrates leadership abilities, excellent communication skills and strong observation skillsKnowledge of documentation in an EMR.

Proficient in starting IV’s, accessing and de-accessing ports. Willing to work towards becoming a Certified Breast Care Nurse.

The Breast Health Specialist nurse is responsible for the physical, emotional, and educational needs of the patient undergoing procedures of the breast performed by: stereotactic guidance, us guidance, and MRI guidance. This includes pre-procedure; intra-procedure and post-procedure care. The nurse collaborates with the Radiologists in the planning of patient care.

The nurse has a working knowledge of breast imaging protocols, conditions, MQSA and ACR guidielines such as BIRADS, breast density & lay result letters. The nurse tracks outcomes of biopsy recommendations and schedules breast interventional procedures. The nurse is responsible for coordination of any additional services the patient may require including coordination of surgical consult as directed by the radiologist.

The nurse will assist in the Imaging Center as needed: starting IVs, accessing and de-accessing ports, and administering medication under the direction of the Radiologist and assessing patient conditions. The nurse assists in the proper handling and documentation of specimens. The nurse documents care provided in PowerChart, enters pathology and documents as needed in MagView.

The nurse will have a working knowledge of PACS. The nurse works collaboratively with the Breast Cancer Navigator to ensure continuity of care for a patient diagnosed with breast cancer. The nurse must obtain a minimum of 2 local, state, regional or national breast-specific CEU each year.

The nurse is responsible for attending in-services and keep informed of new technology. Performs other duties as assigned. Physical RequirementsThis job can be physically demanding at times requiring stooping, sitting, standing, and walking for long periods of time. The team member will need to frequently assist lifting patients and heavy equipment.

Must be able to work in a stressful environment, work independently, making sound decisions, detail oriented, alert and self-motivated. Ability to push/pull up to 40lbs, carry and lift up to 50lbs.
