About the role

We are currently seeking a passionate individual who is eager to make a difference in a dynamic healthcare environment. The chaplain will be responsible for providing pastoral care coverage, which includes both timely response to pages, referrals, and all Traumas, as well as proactively rounding on patients, guests, and staff.

The chaplain will also provide emotional and/or spiritual support as necessary for the patients, guests, and staff of Shands Jacksonville Medical Center. ResponsibilitiesResponsible for providing pastoral care support to patients, guests, and staff. (20%)Timely response to all traumas, deaths, and other referrals as paged or called.

(15%)Notification of next-of-kin in trauma situations. (15%)Completion of all appropriate decedent affairs paperwork to assure authorization of autopsies and release of body from the hospital in a timely fashion. (15%)Notification of funeral home to release body.

(5%)Clear and concise documentation of all pastoral care rendered in both the patient's medical record and the pastoral care on-call log. (10%)Make proactive rounds on patients, guests, and staff. (10%)Provide emotional and/or spiritual support as necessary to patients, guests, and staff.

(10%) Liaison with community clergy and Organ Procurement Program, funeral homes, and the Medical Examiner as appropriate. Shares backup on-call responsibilities with other staff as assigned. Immediate notification to Department Director and/or Senior Director of Customer Relations & Outcomes for issues that warrant response or notification.

Meets training requirements as expected with minimal follow-through required. Performs all other duties as assigned by management within job scope. QualificationsRequired

High School Diploma or GED required along with one unit of Clinical Pastoral Education in an accredited CPE program and or certificate of participation in a chaplaincy program. Preferred

Preference is given to those with Bachelor's and Master of Divinity degrees from an accredited college and theological school. Preferred Licensure/Certifications: Prefer denominational ordination and endorsement. Required

Less than 1 year pastoral experience in both the church and clinical setting. Preferred

Three years parish experience and 1-2 year in a clinical setting. Necessary

Excellent interpersonal, patient care, professional demeanor, and communication skillsSpiritual care and counseling skillsAbility to implement decedent affairs proceduresAbility to understand, support and communicate institutional policy.
