You’ll need
Licensure
✓New York License required for NY locations.
Certifications
✓Successful completion of a NAACLS accredited HT program within the last 5 years OR an Associate's degree and 1 year clinical Histology experience OR at least 60 semester hours of academic credit from a regionally accredited college/ university with a combination of 12 semester hours of biology
✓American Society Clinical Pathology Histotechnologist- HTL (ASCP) certification required within 12 months of hire.
✓UPMC Central PA employees active in a histotechnician, on or before the effective date 1/1/2020, are grandfathered regarding certification and will not need to obtain it unless they move into a different position that would require certification.
✓American Society for Clinical Pathology
Education
✓Successful completion of bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college/university with a combination of 30 semester hours of biology and chemistry.
✓One year of clinical histology laboratory experience post training if not a graduate of accredited training program required.

About the role
candidates may be hired at either the Histotechnologist or Histotechnician level depending on experience/education requirements met.

Maintain instruments following qualityMaintain instruments following quality control specifications and daily maintenance protocols
Perform ancillary or miscellaneousPerform ancillary or miscellaneous tasks such as filing, cleaning, stocking supplies
Perform QC checks atPerform QC checks at each phase of processing/ staining
Accurately prepares slides forAccurately prepares slides for microtomy using the barcode label in order to maintain correct patient identification throughout the process
