Direct patient care functions are under the direction of the RN/LPN. JOB QUALIFICATIONS Education or Formal Training Currently enrolled in accredited nursing program Completed 1st year of a 2-year nursing program, or 3rd year of a 4-year baccalaureate nursing program, or equivalent for accelerated programs. Must complete clinical rotations in Medical/Surgical unit.

Special Qualifications (Licensure, Registration, etc.) Must be able to provide documentation of class courses and competencies completed in 1st year of nursing school for validation. CNA certification or equivalent certification is preferred. Equivalent certifications include: EMT, MA, Military Medic or completion of 1st year of nursing core classes (not prerequisites for nursing school).

BLS certification required by the end of conditional period. Knowledge, Skill and Ability Basic knowledge of Infection prevention and universal precautions Basic knowledge of frequently used medical terminologies Basic Computer and technical equipment knowledge desirable. Able to take directions from multiple staff and demonstrate the ability to set priorities.

Basic knowledge and competencies in the care of peripheral IV’s, Foley Catheters, Lab draws, and wound care. Experience Hospital or other health care experience preferred. Completed Nursing Fundamentals and Adult Medical/Surgical Clinical Skills/Abilities MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT DIRECTLY USED Standard medical/hospital equipment: i.e. hospital beds, wheelchairs and carts, positioning aids, IV infusion pumps, monitoring equipment, phone and intercom systems, computers, etc.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES Physical working environment may include, but not be limited to, any of the following hazards: chemical, electrical, mechanical, biowaste, explosive, radiation, etc. Environmental conditions may include, but not be limited to, variations in temperature, noise, odors, etc. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to constantly stand and walk.

The employee frequently is required to stoop, crouch and twist. The employee is occasionally required to kneel, squat and sit. The employee must be able to consistently support, push, pull and/or lift up to 10 pounds, frequently support, push, pull and/or lift up to 30 pounds and occasionally support, push, pull and/or transfer up to 50 pounds (for example, moving a patient from a wheelchair to a bed).

Functional physical demands include; manual dexterity, fine motor skills and reaching. INTERRELATIONSHIPS Flexibility to work in any of the inpatient hospital departments and develop strong working relationships as needed. Supports and promotes ENCORE!

Familiar with organization, department and job specific environment of care policies, including life safety, utilities management, hazardous material communication, emergency preparedness Infection Prevention and medical equipment failure. Implements interventions based on the Plan of Care, priority of patient’s needs and desired outcome, guidelines/standards of care, and agency policy and procedures.

Increased complexity of assignments are assigned based on demonstrated competencies. Can perform selected procedures under the direction and supervision of a RN/LPN. Evaluates practice in relation to professional standards, statues, regulations, hospital and departmental policies, and standards of care.

Practices proper HIPAA compliance and performs other duties as assigned. Employees are expected to comply with all regulatory requirements, including Joint Commission Standards. Is familiar with organization, department and job specific Environment of Care areas, including Life Safety, Utilities Management, Hazardous Materials Communications, Emergency Preparedness, Infection Control and Medical Equipment Failure.

Adheres to Standard Precautions as appropriate, which may include: The use of protective barriers, as appropriate (e.g., gloves, masks, gowns, pocket masks, and/or safety glasses); Handling and disposing of infectious waste appropriately; and hand washing as appropriate. OTHER DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES Other duties as assigned. These various duties may vary depending on the unit and patient type.
