Responsible for the day-to-day operations and professional nursing practice of assigned unit(s). Responsible for hiring and firing of nursing personnel, periodic employee evaluations, orientation of new employees, and performance improvement activities. Responsible for cost center(s) budgets.
Supervises RN's, Patient Care Associates, Clerical Associates and other clinical support personnel. Coaches and mentors the Assistant Nurse Manager, if applicable, for succession planning. QualificationsAge of Patients Served: All Age Groups.
Required
Bachelor's degree - New hires effective August 1, 2013, must have a BSN degree from an accredited school of nursing. For those responsible for the following departments, effective 07/01/2018, all current employees are required to have AWHONN FHM Intermediate or Advanced by 07/01/2019. - Previous supervisory experience. Requires excellent written and oral communication skills. Ability to function independently. Demonstrated management skills, conflict resolution, and negotiation techniques. Knowledge of Joint Commission Standards and other regulatory standards. Knowledge of hospital policies and procedures and the Collective Bargaining Unit Contract. For certifications that require a specified number of cases or hours worked within the specialty, the certification must be applied for once the case/time requirement has been met, and the certification must be obtained within one year of the requirement having been met (e.g. oncology, chemotherapy, diabetes education). Preferred Licensure/Certifications: Professional Certification. Required
1-2 years - Supervisory or Charge Nurse experience. -AND- 3-5 years - Clinical experience. Preferred
Minimum of 3 years clinical experience with demonstrated increasing responsibilities. Supervision: Supervisory responsibility - YES. Number of employees varies by unit.
