Project Manager - Construction Special Projects

This position is responsible for managing and coordinating construction activities for hospital and medical building projects, acting as the primary liaison between the organization and construction companies. This person should gain knowledge of BCH building standards. The Special Projects Construction Manager ensures all facility requirements, Facility Guidelines Institute (FGI), building codes, and regulatory standards are met along with the contractor and architect.

This person collaborates with the BCH Construction Project Steering Committee (CPSC) on all activities, risks, concerns, and decisions needed. This role supports the development and execution of new and renovated facility spaces, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and meet project requirements. JOB QUALIFACTIONS Education or Formal Training Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or related field or equivalent preferred.

Working knowledge of scheduling programs and understands successors/predecessors’ relationships and resource loading, and delays preferred. Special Qualifications (Licensure, Registration, etc.) ASHE CHC, CHFM, Trained in ICRA 2.0, relevant certifications (e.g., PMP) preferred. Knowledge, Skill and Ability Strong knowledge of hospital/medical building codes (FGI, IBC, UPC, and city energy requirements) and regulatory requirements (Joint Commission, OSHA, ADA, NFPA, DMV, FDA, etc.) preferred.

Strong working knowledge of all aspects of construction including structural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing including building automation system BAS preferred. Demonstrable teamwork and teambuilding skills. Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Proficiency with project management and construction documentation tools (e.g., Microsoft Project, Primavera, CAD, BlueBeam). Ability to work collaboratively with the project team, internal maintenance team, and with external contractors. Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.

Experience 5+ years of experience in construction management required, preferably in healthcare facilities. 3 years Healthcare Facility Management Operations (manager or directorship) preferred. This position requires quick thinking and problem-solving skills. Physical requirements include the ability to lift and manipulate forty (40) pounds on foot for several minutes. Manual dexterity and hand/eye coordination to work with small computer parts.

Sensory requirements include visual acuity capable of reading monitors, reports, and hardware displays and audio acuity capable of telephone use and detecting audio alarm systems. Work with an open mind as a team member with other departments to come up with the best possible solutions for BCH to system-wide problems. May have to travel to other facilities or campuses.

INTERRELATIONSHIPS involves extensive consulting and communication with various departments, physicians, nurses, senior management, vendors, and outside agencies. SUPERVISORY DUTIES

AND RESPONSIBILITIES Manage day-to-day construction activities for special facility projects working closely with the general contractors. Architect, and some interfacing with sub-contractor and assigned superintendents. Liaise with construction companies to ensure plans are executed accurately and on schedule.

Responsible for coordinating installation of all equipment with the designated equipment Project Manager and third-party vendors. Evaluates and coordinates pre-construction activities and needs related to facilities operations and management. Assist the project team with identifying storage needs.

Reviews all pay apps for completeness and progress for the Executive signer Work with GC to develop a workable schedule Assist with RFIs, change orders and answering day to day GC questions Coordinates all Hot Work and Utility shutdowns, cutovers, etc. Review plans and specifications for compliance and accuracy. Serve as the first point of contact for assigned facility project requirements related to construction activities in hospital/medical buildings.

Ensure all construction work complies with relevant codes and regulations as set forth by Facilities Director, Architect, and Contractor Coordinates life safety and infection control planning and execution Prepare for and support building inspections, regulatory inspections, and approvals. Act as a key member of the project team, reporting directly to the CPSC. Keep the CPSC informed of all site activities, risks, issues, and decisions required.

Document and communicate project updates, changes, and concerns in a timely manner. Identify potential risks, delays, or issues early and communicate them to the Project Manager and the CPSC. Recommend and/or coordinate solutions or corrective actions to keep the project on track.

Coordinate with internal stakeholders (facilities, clinical teams, safety, etc.) to ensure facility needs are met. Facilitate meetings and walkthroughs with project team members and contractors.
