Under the general direction of the Supervisor of Radiology, Senior Radiology Technologist, and Director of Imaging Services and in accordance with established policy and procedures the aide performs multiple jobs in the department. This includes transportation of patients, front office procedures, and assisting others with patients or others as needed.. Maintains a high level of initiative, dependability, and motivation.
Communicates effectively and exhibits sound judgment in patient safety and treats all individuals with professionalism and respect.
Assumes the primary responsibility for transporting patients to the department using wheelchairs, stretchers and other necessary assist devices. Advises nursing personnel regarding transportation of patient from the unit. Always checks the patient’s armband to verify patient’s identity prior to transporting.
Identifies self and department to the patient. Assists non-ambulatory patients with transfer from bed to transport vehicle; appropriately drapes/covers patients to ensure privacy. Assists ambulatory patients with arm support, etc., as necessary.
Assists patients with dressing or undressing as necessary. Protects patient’s privacy at all times. Continuously reviews EPIC transport list throughout shift and completes tasks within EPIC.
Follows appropriate procedure for obtaining, returning, cleaning or disposing of equipment and supplies. Insures supplies are stored in an organized and efficient manner. Demonstrates correct and safe techniques on the use of equipment.
Notifies appropriate personnel of repair needs and potential hazards. Provides appropriate exam information and communicates instructions to the patient, family, or significant others. . Maintains current knowledge and promotes self-development and advancement of knowledge and skills.
Attends and participates in department meetings. Attends educational programs and shares knowledge gained with fellow staff members. Stocks and organizes departmental supplies.
Stocks and distributes gowns/linens within department. Cleans wheelchairs and stretchers and assure they are operating properly. Reports the need for repair to the appropriate personnel.
May assist technologists as directed with patients. This may include but is not limited to assisting patients on/off examination tables, holding patients, or staying with patients who may be confused/disorientated/critical. May perform related clerical duties.
This may include but is not limited to answering phones, obtaining information necessary for forms/charts Observes and demonstrates barrier precautions/infection control policies. Education/Experience High school diploma or equivalent required. Prior direct patient contact preferred.
Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care for patients/families of all ages. Excellent attitude, interpersonal skills and communication abilities necessary to interact with patients, physicians and other hospital associates.
