Under the direction of the Clinical Nurse Supervisor, Operational Manager, and Medical Director/Chief; The RN Team Leader provides unit-level leadership and oversight to nursing staff ensuring quality patient care. The RN Team Leader supports staff performance, regulatory compliance, patient safety, staff development, unit operations, and adherence to policies and procedures. The RN Team Leader is responsible for coordinating daily clinical workflows, and assisting in the development of systems that maximize patient experience and provider efficiency.

Essential Job FunctionsWorks with the Supervisor/Manager to assure the appropriate application of the nursing process. Assists in the orientation, training and documentation of new clinical staff. Works directly with the Nursing Supervisor to assess and meet continuing education needs and requirements for self and nursing staff.

As necessary, functions in a staff nurse capacity as needed to ensure quality patient care and safety, as observed by supervisor. Works directly with Nurse Supervisor and / or the Clinic Operations Manager to implement Performance Improvement and Risk management activities and practices. Attends divisional staff and provider meetings with the exception of scheduled time off, presents agenda items as requested by supervisor.

As delegated, makes clinical assignments, monitors performance, sets work schedules and arranges coverageResponsible for the daily assignment for all nursing personnel, drafts work schedules, arranges coverage as measured by Nursing Supervisor, staff and provider feedback. In collaboration with the Nurse Supervisor and / or the Clinic Operations Manager, assists with UKG management; monitoring punches, overtime, PTO and sick time.

Provides insight as it relates to approving/denying requested time off to align with staffing demand/schedules. Monitors workload, adhering to Staffing to Variable Demand guidelines (Policy #: HR-NC-BHN-018) as observed by manager/supervisor. Independently solves staffing problems, keeps manager/supervisor informed of situations beyond his/her resources, as observed by manager/supervisor.

Provides feedback on performance evaluations of clinic RN’s, LPN’s, MA’s and MOA’s based on information provided by peers, providers, and clinic manager/supervisor. Provides input for evaluations as requested on time with 100% compliance, as reviewed by manager/supervisor. Assists with interviewing candidates for open nursing positions.

Assists in the development of proposals for improved efficiency, productivity or expansion of nursing services, offers workable suggestions with follow through, as observed by manager/supervisor. Assists in the development of effective interdepartmental working relationships, to ensure smooth, efficient patient care systems. Sets an example in work performance and team building attitudes, concern for patients and support of clinicians by maintaining a positive interpersonal attitude and demeanor, as observed by manager/supervisor.

Acts as a first contact for patient complaints as they relate to clinical issues and problem solves within the delegated authority provided. Works with Nurse Supervisor to assure compliance with all outside accrediting and regulatory agency codes and standards, as observed by manager/supervisor. Maintains unit logs and tracers ensuring documentation meets organizational, accreditation, and quality requirements.

Supports staff in maintaining unit tracers, addressing gaps through education and process improvement. Provides recommendations about the utilization of property and supplies to minimize waste while maintaining quality. Assists manager/supervisor in the regular review of purchasing practices of clinic supplies.

Regularly assesses the par level of supplies in use to assure supply availability as observed by supervisor. Maintains communication with warehouse staff and assists with specialty purchases for applicable orders. Serves as a staff resource to the clinic manager/supervisor, providers and other department members for problem solving and information gathering.

Consistently ensures that patient information remains private and confidential, by identifying privacy issues and sets policies to ensure the protection of patient information, as observed by manager/supervisor. Provides input to the Nurse Supervisor regarding potential issues surrounding Nursing Policy and Procedure. Disseminates nursing perspective and information to Nurse Supervisor, providers and other department members as needed for problem solving.

Maintains current licensure, certifications, and competencies. Oversees required unit credentialing according to departmental policy by providing documented evidence of completion to Supervisor. Helps to coordinate the completion and submission of required documentation for self and staff.

Assists the supervisor with obtaining evidence of completion for the previous calendar year to ensure staff proficiency in alignment with organizational standards. Performs and documents Point of Care (POC) testing and quality control in accordance with established laboratory policies and procedure as observed by supervisor and POC staff. Maintains and documents testing reagents/supplies and equipment according to established laboratory procedures as observed by supervisor and POC staff.

Responsible for medication ordering and management to maintain appropriate inventory levels and support safe, uninterrupted patient care. Submits and tracks IT, maintenance, biomedical, and print shop requests to support unit operations and workflow efficiency. Coordinates/Implements training on new equipment, services, and supplies.

Assist with staff absence tracking and call ins, as requested by the supervisor. Serves as designated on-site staff for clinic closure, ensuring proper shut down procedures and security. Assists in addressing medication temperature excursions to maintain medication safety and regulatory compliance.

Performs other duties as requested and observed by supervisor or manager. Assist with huddles as directed by supervisor. RN Team Leader Ambulatory Care Certification

Vocational / Technical Diploma Professional Nursing Program, required4 year / Bachelor's Degree in Nursing, preferredAll RN’s hired and do not currently hold a BSN will be expected to demonstrate enrollment in a bachelor’s prepared nursing program within 4 years of hire.

BSN must be completed within 10 years. RN’s licensed on or before 12/19/17 are/remain exempt from this requirement.
