Demonstrates strong clinical and technical skills, including IV and central line management, blood specimen collection, urinary and NG catheter care, tracheostomy care, point-of-care testing, medication administration, and use of surgical/post-operative equipment. Ensures patient safety and regulatory compliance by following infection-control and standard precautions, medication and patient identification protocols, informed consent requirements, advance directives, confidentiality, National Patient Safety Goals, and organizational policies.
Advocates for and educates patients and families, providing individualized education, emotional support, culturally responsive care, and opportunities for informed decision-making throughout the surgical experience. Collaborates effectively with the interdisciplinary team through accurate SBAR handoffs, delegation and supervision, care coordination, timely documentation, change-of-shift/transfer reporting, emergency preparedness, and ongoing professional development.
