Directs and supervises nursing service functions and activities throughout the hospital; implements and interprets policies, procedures, standards, and regulations for personnel, patients, medical staff and the public. Ensures compliance with JCAHO standards. Performs duties in any nursing capacity as needed.
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS: The House Supervisor reports directly to the Chief Nursing Officer. The House Supervisor works closely with the Nursing Managers, members of the Administrative Team and all hospital departments. Direct reports are all nursing staff and other clinical employees.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES: Prepares work schedules and assigns personnel; adjust staffing levels to meets overall needs of the hospital and provide for adequate coverage of the units. Promotes cooperation of the staff to achieve department objectives and maintain good department relations. Maintain established department policies and procedures, objectives, performance improvement activities, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
Provides performance feedback that supports employee development through self-appraisal and formal supervisor appraisal of performance. The incumbent is expected to continually follow the essential practices of effective management: time management, focusing on opportunities and results, utilization of employees’ strengths, setting proper priorities and sound decision-making practices. Admits patients and arranges emergency operations and other services.
Receives and reviews preceding shift reports and floor nurse reports; makes complete rounds of all units and notes patients’ condition. Attends meetings as required and participates on committees as directed EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE: Must hold a current and valid Registered Nurse license in the State Of Louisiana. Must be able to communicate proficiently, both orally and with written.
Must have the ability to reason and solve practical problems and manage a variety of situations only limited standardization exists. Must have the ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form. Must have current BLS Certification upon hire.
ACLS, NRP, PALS and MOAB certifications within 6 months of hire.
