The tech leader support provides leadership in the processes and tasks provided by the ED Trauma Techs. The Lead assures successful implementation of new products, processes, initiatives specific to the tech role. The Lead participates in monthly ED leadership meetings assuring communication, shared decision making and support.
Is a leader, mentor, and role model for best practice. Participates in competency reviews, providing growth, opportunities and recognition, identifies issues and concerns, interviewing for new staff, participates in change and new programs, and other responsibilities as requested by the ED Manager. JOB QUALIFICATIONS Education or Formal Training High School graduate or equivalent preferred Special Qualifications (Licensure, Registration, etc.) Colorado or National EMT-B certification required BLS certification required; suspension occurs if certification expires IV certification required, one time only, no expiration Knowledge, Skill and Ability Excellent communication skills Basic knowledge of asepsis and universal precautions.
Basic knowledge of frequently used medical terminologies. Medical terminology class preferred Able to take directions from multiple staff and demonstrate the ability to set priorities. Physical and mental stamina to perform job duties.
Experience Minimum 1 year experience in Emergency Department MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT DIRECTLY USED Standard medical/hospital equipment including sphygmomanometer, wheelchairs, stretchers, positioning aids, etc. Standard secretarial equipment including computer, intercom, telephone, copy machine, etc. WORKING ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES Physical working environment may include, but not be limited to, any of the following hazards: chemical, electrical, mechanical, biowaste, radiation, etc.
Environmental conditions may include, but not be limited to, variations in temperature, noise, odors, etc. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to constantly stand and walk. The employee frequently is required to stoop, crouch and twist.
The employee is occasionally required to kneel, squat and sit. The employee must be able to consistently support, push, pull and/or lift up to 10 pounds, frequently support, push, pull and/or lift up to 30 pounds and occasionally support, push, pull and/or transfer up to 50 pounds (for example, moving a patient from a wheelchair to a bed). Functional physical demands include manual dexterity, fine motor skills and reaching.
The following senses will be needed to do essential duties of the job: speech, vision, hearing, smell and touch. INTERRELATIONSHIPS Collaborates with coworkers in problem identification and solving. Evaluates own and peer performance as requested.

Helps with competencies, and coaching of competency/performance concerns. 5. Assist with point of care testing and training of techs
AND RESPONSIBILITIES Clinical role model to the staff and encourages staff growth in clinical performance, decision-making, conflict resolution, teamwork and adherence to standards. This includes resource for critical needs and problem solving. Perform point of care testing.
Provides leadership for trauma tech group, working collaboratively with nursing. Communicates, oversees systems and processes specific to the tech role. This includes advocate and liaison for professional development and growth, orientation, education, and standards for care.
Consultant with the ED Educator and Manager to assure successful orientation of new trauma techs. Coaches trauma techs for crucial communication, teamwork and safety. Is aware of department issues, recognizes needs and recommends changes.
Participates in the interview and hiring process for trauma techs. Maintains knowledge of hospital and department policy standards and procedures. Assists in creating a workplace that supports and achieves a high morale among the staff.
Together with the Educator and Manager, assesses clinical competence of staff and identifies education needs to support growth. Has ability to care for patients of all ages. Lead person for order entry, charging, billing and medical record coordination.
Attends 70% of management meetings. Assumes a leadership role in emergency response, coordination of resources and bioterrorism identification. Are expected to comply with all regulatory requirements, including Joint Commission Standards.
Is familiar with organization, department and job specific Environment of Care areas, including Life Safety, Utilities Management, Hazardous Materials Communications, Emergency Preparedness, Infection Control and Medical Equipment Failure. Adheres to Standard Precautions as appropriate, which may include: the use of protective barriers, as appropriate (e.g., gloves, masks, gowns, pocket masks, and/or safety glasses); handling and disposing of infectious waste appropriately; and hand washing as appropriate.
