. Medical direction is provided by the physician EMS Liaison. The trauma tech may coordinate care in fast track collaborating with provider and Clinical Team Lead.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS Education or Formal Training Medical Terminology class preferred Colorado certification required. National EMT-B licensure is accepted upon application, but Colorado certification is required prior to working within the ED department. Special Qualifications (Licensure, Registration, etc.) BLS certification required; suspension occurs if certification expires IV certification required - one time only, no expiration Copy of High School or higher-level degree diploma or transcript required for point of care testing Knowledge, Skill and Ability Ability to effectively communicate to patients, family, and co-workers Basic knowledge of frequently used medical terminologies Knowledge of policies and procedures related to Emergency Department Experience One year of experience preferred in Emergency Department or other acute care hospital setting MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT DIRECTLY USED Standard medical/hospital equipment including, but not limited to: sphygmomanometer, wheelchairs, stretchers, positioning aids, 12 lead EKG, patient monitors, I-STAT, other laboratory instruments, breathalyzer, Trophon, Zeto, US for US IVs, and other office equipment including computer, intercom, telephone, copy machine and fax machine WORKING ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES Physical working environment may include, but not be limited to, any of the following hazards: chemical, electronic, mechanical, biowaste, explosive, radiation, etc.

Environmental conditions may include, but not be limited to, variations in temperature, noise, odors, etc. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to constantly stand and walk. The employee frequently is required to stoop, crouch and twist.

The employee is occasionally required to kneel, squat and sit. The employee must be able to consistently support, push, pull and/or lift up to 10 pounds, frequently support, push, pull and/or lift up to 30 pounds and occasionally support, push, pull and/or transfer up to 50 pounds (for example, moving a patient from a wheelchair to a bed.) Functional physical demands include manual dexterity, fine motor skills and reaching.

The following senses will be needed for essential duties of the job: speech, vision, hearing, smell and touch. INTERRELATIONSHIPS Patient and family communication and appreciation of ENCORE! values are essential. Directly responsible to the RN.

Development of a team relationship is necessary. Fosters and maintains a good working relationship with all other departments in the hospital as well as within the emergency department. SUPERVISORY DUTIES Responsible for orientation of new employees.

Responsible for clinical rotation of EMT students. Assist with training of licensed hospital professionals with IV/US IV insertions When applicable, employees must be able to adjust the

AND RESPONSIBILITIES The trauma tech practices under the supervision, guidance, and instruction of a licensed physician, physician assistant, advanced nurse practitioner, or registered nurse who is immediately available and physically present. Unit Coordinator role is critical to organization and efficiency of the ED. Specific duties include: Prepare portions of ED charts for medical records Coordinate with CTL/charge to take biophone calls and receive patients on tracker Coordinate with CTL/charge to call dispatch and transport agencies and notify of advisory or divert status.

Coordinates with RNs and providers to contact agencies for transport out of facility. Communication network-phones, fax, intercom, paging. Patient log, data entry into EMR Functions under the direct supervision of the assigned RN or medical provider.

Tasks as delegated by the RN, within the tech scope of practice, including but not limited to: stocking, phlebotomy, 12-lead EKG, wound care, dressings etc. Understands and performs laboratory procedures,/POC testing, and documents in EMR per policy. Assists RN with Traumas, Stroke Alerts, and Cardiac Alerts.

Manage Fast Track with ED provider. Performs patient’s assessment and vital signs within scope of practice. Administers medications within their scope of practice with deemed competency.

Initiates IV access according to standards. Performs tasks/procedures per Trauma Techs Acts allowed in accordance with the Rules Pertaining to EMS Practice and Medical Director Oversight. Communication Provides discharge instructions as delegated by RN or providers.

Updates patients and families of what to expect, and delays. Promotes customer service through communication, respect, and education of our patients. Documents procedures and pertinent patient information in EMR.

Unit Assures stocking and supplies in areas assigned. Participates in maintaining a neat and clean environment. Identifies opportunities to improve performance and systems.

Responsible for professional growth and development. Seeks feedback from peers. Attends educational offerings.

Completes yearly educational requirements of department. Safety Adheres to OSHA and Health Department Regulations. Knowledgeable in approach to violent mental health and agitated patients to assure personal safety.

De-escalation class. Employees are expected to comply with all regulatory requirements, including Joint Commission Standards. Is familiar with organization, department and job specific Environment of Care areas, including Life Safety, Utilities Management, Hazardous Materials Communications, Emergency Preparedness, Infection Control and Medical Equipment Failure.
